My 11 year old has taken to wearing odd sockes to school! He said all the boys were odd socks! I've given up saying no because does it really matter? I was never allowed to wear odd socks. Its strange how he gets them odd as when they put there underwear away they all roll there socks up, so he must wear them up odd!

My 4-year-old grandson wears odd socks and, as far as I know, has always worn them. At least since he has been selecting his own socks. He doesn't answer the question "why." We assumed it was just something that he did. I guess it's a boy thing.

All of my socks look the same except a few pair have gray heels and toes. My son's socks are the same way. I try to wear socks that match, but if I grab 2 socks that are not exactly the same it does not really matter because no one will be able to see the difference unless I take my shoes off.

Mis-Matched Socks - What a strange fad
They stopped allowing students at Valley Oak and Golden West in Cali because gangs started doing it as a way to identify wach other. But when I was a kid and at those two schools hmmm don't think I wore socks that were mix match. I do now but thas when I put on my clown suit....lol then you might see me with two diggerent color shoes to. The girls did it never heard the guys doing it unless was gang related. (Not saying you have that to wory bout)

Sounds like a kid for sure. You can buy him all the same type and color of socks then he will have to wear matching socks. hahaha

One of the things I learned in a parenting program once was that if it isn't immoral, illegal or life-threatening, it probably isn't worth worrying about. My mother would have fits that my son would wear shorts in winter. I didn't have a problem with it if he was wearing a coat, etc. We used to wear dresses all the time when I was growing up - a WHOLE lot more wind goes up a skirt than goes up a pant leg!! Also, when I was in school, you didn't dare wear white socks. If you did, you were subject to ridicule. Now, all socks are fair game. But, that idea of no white socks was so ingrained in my psyche that even after all these years, I couldn't wear white socks until only the last 4 or 5 years or so. But, in your son's case, when the fad changes, so will his socks. As long as his feet are warm and the socks are clean, I wouldn't worry about it.

I used to when I was younger. I don't wear them anymore, but my little girl is 8 and she loves to wear odd socks. Her favorite is toe socks. They were my favorite when I was little too.

Do you mean unmatching? Well, maybe some boys do it because they keep on loosing the mates and it is cheaper this way? Personally I would find it a little odd as well unless these are White Tubed socks, and sure others would notice, but if it is the Fad I guess there is nothing you can do about it. It could definately have been something worse.

Hello Anne18 I think it must be some sort of trend or something. My friends daughter does it all the time but I am sure it is because she can't find the other one and I wouldn't be surprised because her room is a real mess! I always insist my son wears dark coloured socks to school, what we call his 'school socks' and he if he wore odd socks they would be completely colours and I don't think he would want to do that!

I only own one type and color of socks so I don't do this. I see nothing wrong with it for a kid. It must just be the "in" thing to do these days. No big deal, atleast he's wearing some.

Yes, I like to wear odd socks. I like the ones that are colorful with the stripes and sometimes I wear the ones that look like gloves for your feet.

I usually don't unless I cannot find a sock to match the one I have. This very rarely happens to me though. That is kind of a boy thing, my boyfriend does it all the time.

I guess it is just a phase that they are going through, just like we have our styles, and some of them made our parents crazy too lol

I'm colour blind, so I'm quite sure I've worn odd socks, and never even known about it (unless someone tells me). Anyway how can they be odd, I've always got an identical pair at home.

My kids don't wear oddly paired socks unless they are at home or whatever they are wearing you can't see their socks. It's really no big deal til you find the other odd socks ;) I wear my hubby's socks fairly often especially in winter as they are much warmer & as long as they are covered I could care less. He doesn't mind if I wear them so no worries. Though your post is reminding me when I was small a few girls liked to roll their socks down like Olive Oyle so they had some funky rolls around their ankles. My oldest did that once or twice and must not of found it very comfy as it didn't take with her.

This must be one of those fads that comes and goes. Back in the 80s, there was a sitcom called Punky Brewster. The main character - Punky Brewster - wore different colored shoes and sox. My son was only in preschool at the time, but he wanted to look like Punky, as did all of the kids from about ages 4-12.

Many years back i bought a whole bunch of those fun socks, well that is what i call them they are all cute with floweres, stars, colors, and what not . I one time even took a pair from my bros high school gf , and those are atleast 10 years old , but my lucky pair , and not in that bad of condition . They are real bold colors of orange LOL with flowers . I want a pair of New York Mets socks, and they have them online in their store, but are like $9.00 for a pair , and with shipping that would be too high . Right now I have a few pair of the fun socks, and just run of the mill white and dress. I guess kids and teens go thru trends and phases with the odd socks you are talking about .
