What do you think of the Foster Care System??

I am a foster parent. I have been supportive of the CPS system throughout my time as a foster parent. However, we have custody of a 2 year old girl, we've had her since she was 2 months. They are trying to get her back with her bio family, who has met obstacle after obstacle to take custody of her. Now this family is talking about getting a divorce and they are still thinking about giving this little one to her bio family. Her case manager says, don't you want her to be told, "Oh, you have your father's eyes, or her mother's nose?" I say "Who gives a crap, let's give her stability!" She is bonded to my bio children and my husband and myself, her doctor is against her going as is her psychologist (yes, a 2 year old has a psychologist) but CPS does not take their opinions into account! What do you think? Are you for nature or for nuture?

I had a bad experience with the foster care system in my state and lots of children have been injured and killed so I am not very approving of it here in my state I know there are good foster parents out there and I am not putting them all down but I think they need to screen them better here.Have a great day.1 person likes this

Nurture definitely. In an ideal situation, you want to keep a child with its natural parents, but sometimes we don't have the ideal parents. In that case, the child should stay in the best environment possible. And you are right, a child being told that she has the features of her parents has no value, NONE. Its sad that CPS doesn't take into account the opinions of the people that know her. I want to say that I would fight, but I don't know how that works, or if you are even able to fight for custody of her. I just hope, if things don't work out with her bio family, that you are the first one considered for her care.
