Add ability to send PM to non-friends?

I was wondering if anyone else feels the same way as me about this. I tried to send a friendly PM to another mylotter just a few minutes ago and was surprised to see that you can only send PMs to friends. In most other forums I've been to, you can send PMs to anyone, which is a lot more convenient.
I understand this feature is in place to protect people from getting spammed, but I've seldom met such problems in other forums and it'd be a much more friendly community if everyone could send PMs to one another when need be.
Anyone agree? If not, why so?

I do not agree. I only want people to be able to send me private messages if they are people that I want to talk to.... aka. my friends. There are people on here that if we could choose to ignore I would. I did not feel this way until about an hour or so ago. I am just saying that I like the way that it is set up now. I have not turned down any friend requests and only can think of 2 that I would turn own as of yet. and I have been on here for 3 weeks. I just like the fact that the only person who can send me a message is a friendly one. That said... myspace and other similar sites have the ability to block or ignore users... that would be welcomed... especially after tonight. some people just have to ruin the fun for everyone.
