I'm not sure, but I just stored it in my cabinet. It lasted me awhile, but if I didn't use it, it started drying out, and I had to throw it out. I don't know much about fresh garlic, so maybe somebody else will have a better idea.

i usually put the garlic and onions on a small bowl in a cabinet or on top of the ref. a few weeks ago i chopped like 2 heads of garlic and stored them in the ref and was very surprised to see them come to life! they obviously sprouted :) haha!

I place my garlic in the kitchen shelf and it doesn't emit that strong garlicky smell. No problem with it.

put it in the same place you put onions. Do not refrigerate it, that will make it sprout to soon. I keep it in a garlic holder on the counter, It will keep about 2 months there without drying out. Once it's dry you can still use it. Just make it into powder by hitting it with the flat of a large knife. Good Luck

Hi there Anne18 I would keep it in the same place as your potatoes. Somewher cool and dark that should stop them from sprouting!

I rarely buy fresh garlic, but when I do I keep in the the bottom drawer of my kitchen cabinets along with my potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, and onions.

MOst of the time when my mom bought fresh garlics, she will be putting them anywhere in the kitchen but never in the fridge.. Because the smell of garlic is very strong, and thus she doesn't want the whole fridege to stink of that.. lol =D Other than that, she says that by keeping those garlics out in the open, but away from the sun, the garlic will be able to last longer.. hehe

Fresh garlic heads will keep for a long time as long as they are stored in a cool dark place. Don't keep them in the fridge or they will start to sprout and become bitter. They can be frozen without a problem or stored in a dark cupboard away from moisture.

I have always stored garlic in the butter compartment of the refridgerator in a ziploc bag. But make sure you squeeze the bag before closing so no air gets trapped in. I am not sure how others store it, but it has always worked. I hope this helps you.
