today i saw something that made my jaw drop. this is no joke. what i saw was an 'atheist temple' where atheist go to pray to no god. its huge and can accommodate no less than 350 people. i cannot comprehend this. i really cannot see how a few hundred people dress in their "sunday best" and drop by an atheist temple and pray. pray to no god. i thought being an atheist means we do not have to pray. how can this be?? i have no religion. just never bothered to decide. but this tops it all. god or no god..we still have to pray. i really really really am confuse now!

Where did you find this 'temple'??? Isn't it funny? Or maybe they want to send out some sort of a message....that it's just that they do not believe in a superpower up there....but there's something else they believe in....maybe prayers? Who knows? I would have investigated and started asking a lot of questions if I saw someone go into such a temple.

lol....what I meant was....I'd like to know what that temple stands for. I wasn't thinking of punishment or reward...but there probably is some logic behind such a temple.

careful there...atheist don't believe in a god that will punish them nor hell. so they might bite your head off for asking them question...and not feel bad about it.

Well yes, its kind of confusing and contradicting too. Just the other day there was this discussion here on whether atheism can be called a religion. I replied in the affirmative, my reasons being – a religion is a set of rules and beliefs created by somebody which quite a few number of people follow in order to achieve some sort of peace and harmony within. By the same parameter, atheism is a set of reasoning about not believing in God. Not every atheist made these reasoning himself/herself but follow the trends simply because they like it and conform to it. However, I thought that praying as in religions was laughed at by the atheist and here they themselves are praying! I think they are more in the line of meditating which is of course different than praying.

owowowow! Atheist temple? Can;t believe that! Where is it? You should have taken a picture of that and posted in here. No offense to those Atheist here in mylot if there's any. I do not usually attend mass, but I do not declare that I am not a believer of God. It is very shocking to know that Atheist do have a temple, for what? To gather? What do they do in their temple? Am really wondering. If they are raying, to whom? No one? If that would be the case, then they aren't Atheist, right? Atheist are non-believers. They do not have religion as well since they do not believe that a Superbeing exists. Oh well, that is something new new today. Thank you for sharing what you saw.

a church, temple, whatever.. is nothing more than a gathering place for people with like minds to.. gather. just because it is a temple doesnt mean those who spend time there pray. more than lkely it is just simply a bnch of peoplewho have the same beleif system communing to share thoughts ideas and just be around others who are of the same ilk. that should end yer "confusions" maybe next time, go inside and actually educate yerself by ASKING.. gee, theres a thought.. wow

yes. very sad it is. my refusal to think like you is like an atheist refusal to think like those with religion. because i do not think like you, i get reprimand exactly like atheist reprimanded by those with religion. and of course its vice versa too. end of the day, we all are nothing but a herd of hypocrite cattles living here on earth.

i will not ask them. ever notice atheist tends to call anyone who is not an atheist an idi0t for believing in a higher power. whats worst is they'll decapitate you and not worry about divine punishment or a new address in hell.

well i have to say Wow too,that is about one of the wildest things i have heard in awhile,seriously i mean,do they go and pray and sing and worship what? ~dizzy~,where was this at? i would love to find out what the heck they do there.Or do they just gather and tell jokes for an hour dressed up.hum that can not be normal (no offense to atheist's) I didn't mean it as you are not normal.(the atheist temple isn't normal)

If this was a news item, then it's either a hoax or meant as a joke. As far as I know, and I've been an atheist all my life, there is not such thing as an atheist temple. No atheist would pray because prayer is a waste of time if you don't believe there's a god to pray to. It's possible that this was just a social meeting place that was misinterpreted by someone. "god or no god..we still have to pray" What does that mean? I've never prayed in my life, and I know that there are many other people who don't pray. And 350 people isn't very much, so I doubt that this (probably mythical) temple is "huge."

Hello, SunDog. Are you sure that the temple is used for them to pray? I am not an atheist, so I do not know how they work, but perhaps the temple is a place where they gather, like if they were a huge community, and perhaps do some things together. They can practice sports, or just have fun in their temple, the place where people will not have to worry about God nor anything, the place where all atheists meet. I am not sure about why is there a temple for them. But I do not think that they would be praying. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

If they used temple, then there must be a good reason. Since temple is a place where you exercise your faith. This makes me wonder. Perhaps they discuss about people who believe in God and about proofs that God does not exist. Perhaps they study about other religions and all...
@SunDog (108)

most likely that maybe the case. ..OR they sit quietly together and savor not having commandments,threat of hell or divine busybody. that can be an experience.

maybe you are right but wouldn't it be better to name it 'Atheist Hall' or 'Atheist Association' instead of 'Temple' when tends to point to praying? the one i saw got a big signboard that says 'Atheist Temple Sanctuary'. but then, 'temple' sounds better don't it?

well, because of that... i might say that Athiests may have considered within their minds that there is really a god, an undiscovered god. They just deny the existence of all other gods introduced to them by different religions of the world maybe because most of religious groups taught an loving but arbitrary, cruel and vengeful god. So athiests deny those gods. But within their hearts, there is a place that says, "maybe there is a true god not yet indtroduced to us!". And so they pray and give worship to that unknown god.

maybe or maybe not. some people just be atheist because a vengeful god do not sound to appetizing. some are scientist in need of solid proof; thus god like a good little boy standing infront of them when demanded for proof of his existence. other just cannot comprehend a greater being than us. there are a million reasons. i will no be so bold to say what they maybe thinking about, thus an atheist temple continues to confuses me :) me? i am just too lazy to decide what to believe in. ya, maybe there is a god. no matter how much preaching from evengelist (both atheist explaining there is no god, and religious people who says you need faith) the decision and believe is still up to the person (and god). no need for throat shoving beliefs or scientific proved unbeliefs.

I was reading another post recently and this person said that atheist believe themselves to be god. Maybe they're praying to themselves. Of course, I don't know why they need to go to a temple to do that.

I can`t believe a stupid thing like that, if you can do a picture and show it to me, anyway if there really is an "atheist temple" those people are sick. I`m an atheist and i don`t pray, don`t need a temple, i don`t do anything that religion does, these guys do the same thing as religion so they believe in a sort of a god, maybe they don`t know what an atheist really is ...
@SunDog (108)

but then they ARE atheist..therefore they cannot possibly invent "god of..". most likely they can come up with 'category 3 nothingness' or 'category 5 nothingness' and so on.

now that's an answer. come to think of it, the christians have denominations and so does islam. do you think atheism now have denominations too?

maybe those sick people will invent the god of science, or the holy god of nothing made from nothing that makes nothing named wisely Nothing! If they already made a temple i wouldn`t wonder if they would do this as well. thanks for the info, you made me laugh real bad for hours

From what I know about atheist people is that they don't have god much more a temple. If you don't have God why you need to go to a temple to pray. It is really confusing how people thinks nowadays. I do hope that these people would be enlighten someday.

It does seem odd that there would be an atheist temple. On the other hand, I highly doubt that those who go there actually go there to pray. It would seem more likely that it is a gathering place or that they go there to meditate or something.

wow that is crazy... What's the point in that? I mean, praying is a form of communication between a person and to that God he/she believes in whether be it God, Buddha, Allah, etc. to whom do they communicate then if they're praying to a no-god. weird...

really? maybe the reason why they visit the temple is to meet up with other atheists.. atheists don't believe in God so i don't think gather there to pray.. I'm a Roman Catholic and I truly believe in Our God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth..
