It was officially announced earlier today that Jay Leno will be staying at NBC and will be hosting a new nightly talk show to be aired weeknights at 10 PM. http://www.usmagazine.com/news/jay-leno-to-host-prime-time-reality-show This show will begin in June which is also when Conan O'Brien takes over the Tonight Show on the same network. At today's press conference Leno said the new show will have some of the features made popular on the Tonight Show such as the monologue and headlines. I'm very glad Jay will still be on TV regularly! Conan O'Brien is funny at times but it will take some getting used to to see him in Jay's time slot. What do you think about this news? I think it will also give many viewers who don't normally stay up late enough to watch Tonight the opportunity to see Jay's unique brand of comedy. Annie

Interesting move but will it work? I don't watch much now at 11:30 so will I watch at 10 pm? Guess I would say I'm more likely to watch him in the earlier time slot. LOL I met Leno once in 1996 and he likes to talk about vintage cars. LOL

That's cool; where did you meet him? He seems like he'd be a nice guy to talk to. Annie

Met him backstage at the Tonight Show. One of my friends co-workers husband worked on the set (with Gene Gene the Dancing Machine from the old Gong Show who also worked backstage on the Tonight Show at that time). After the show was over we got introduced to Jay and he walked out of the studio with us and he showed us his vintage car in the Parking Lot. It had New Hampshire plates on it because somebody had just bought it from there for him and shipped it to California for him. He's a real car nut and was real nice too. LOL

Yes, I was surprised to hear this. Interested to see how it works out for them. I watch Leno every night. I like his style and the fact that he doesn't 'dumb down' his comedy to reach a broader audience. If you aren't up on current things you just aren't going to 'get' some of his monologue and that seems to be alright with him. I am usually still up when Conan comes on too. I love his interviewing style. I can't wait to see what the Tonight show format will be with him at the helm. His comedy can be silly but he is pure entertainment when interviewing. I am excited to see how all this plays out. Hoping the best for both of them.

I think they'll both do fine. There's definitely an audience for both of them as well as the other late night hosts such as Letterman, Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel. I'm not sure what any of their ratings are but like the NBC president or whoever it was on the press conference said the ratings window for these kinds of shows are lower than for a drama or comedy series that costs so much more to make. I'm sure he'll get new viewers since it will be on earlier.

I think it's great! I often try to stay awake for Jay Leno, but I seldom achieve it, since I get up for work at 3:30 every morning. Ten might be more doable. Jay could make a huge dent in Conan O'Brian's audience, because people will have had their late-night fix a bit early. In order to be on earlier than he's been, Conan's going to need to change his show. He's far less likely to offend anyone at 1:30 in the morning than at 11:30. He csan get pretty raw. I'm anxious to see how both comedians change in order to accommodate their new schedules.

Good point, you can get away with more at 12:30 or 1 am than you can at 11:30 and you can get away with more at 11:30 than at 10. I'm anxious to see how they adjust too. Annie

I haven't seen Jay since my four year old was a baby lol I like him but that's way past my bed time since I have no idea when I will wake up. 10 I can handle but that's when I watch Keith, luckily I have that DVR thing on my cable and can just record it lol

It's weird but I've only had my DVR for about a year and a half or something like that but I don't know how I ever survived without it. Before that, it was my VCR but with them you have to worry about having enough room left on the tape and stuff. Plus, they're pretty much obsolete now and I don't think you can even get new VHS tapes anymore. Annie

Hey annie! I just don't understand! I thought he was retiring from all that! So exactly what is the point then? It makes absolutely no sense to me at all! And the same thing with Conan! So they switched times of their shows? What is the difference then? I am not really a Leno fan so quite frankly I really don't care. I still have no intention of watching him!

I know, I remember when he announced he'd be stepping down from the Tonight Show in 2009 he'd said it would be time to "move on" but the only thing moving is the time slot. I think once it got closer he realized he really didn't want to give it up. Plus, he will be reaching a slightly different audience, I would imagine, but people like you who aren't a fan now will probably not suddenly become fans...lol! Annie

Sorry I pass on him late night and I will pass on him in primetime. Some people will go for it and that's all good with me. Hope he does well.
