It feels a bit awkward if someone has spent a lot of time replying to your descussion to then give them a negative.
What do you think?

Oh please do not do that to me. Don't rate me with a negative.
You are too cruel and harsh when you rate someone a negative. I do rate everyone who will respond to my discussion with a positive rate even or despite provoking or senseless insights. I just ignore those. I will just think their effort in responding. I do not care much if their views is much afar from the topic or they are not being responsive. I would care much of those with good and sensible opinions, which I noticed to be of a majority. Seldom that I encounter people in mylot who does not respond in such a way the discussion goes.

Ratings should be based on content and quality of each individual response. A response with a contrasting view should not be given a negative rating. After all this is a discussion site so we have to expect diversity in all aspects of life. Of course there is a line between freedom of expression and extremism.
A long response may not be filled with content. There are responses which contain repetition of a point. There are responses which do not even address the topic of discussion. There are responses which are difficult to understand.
The bottom line is decide on a criteria you would use to rate a response. Keep to this and you may find it easier to rate responses.
