What a pertient post!
To be honest, I just try to wear neat and clean clothes and do not remain much conscious about my appearance. I know it is ultimately going to be my behaviour and interaction, which will be more important for the other person. If I talk to a person in a sound and convincing manner and make him feel my presence felt, I think, that will carry more importance. Sometimes, I just do not bother even to comb my hair, specially after getting down from the vehicle. I know that I look handsome and smart so if anything is here and there, it does not matter, I'll win the heart of that person........LOL!

Even if the opposite person is someone special and 'she', there won't be much change in my attitude. If somehow I could not comb my hair or something wrong with clothes, I would be able to hold the fort. I know I can talk to her with conviction.........LOL!

Hi Dpk...Areee wah...what a pertinent reply.......[em]thumbup[/em}....So Dpk ,you know your way around and you can hold your fort, come what may, with the other person. This is a good attitude, and reflects self confidence in yourself, and also your ability to get along with another person, without becoming self consciuos about your appearance.....
But Dpk,you were talking of the other person as 'he'...What will be your stand if you have to meet a special "she" and not "he".....Dont tell me you will not worry if your hair is not combed or your shirt is not properly pressed,at that time also.....????

Hi Bala....When it comes to cleanliness and neatness,I think we south Indians take the cake.It is said that in India the greatest demand for soap and washing powder is in S.India.............Yes cleanliness and neatness adds a new dimension to a person's personality and if you are dressed to kill, then nothing can ever stop you.................Good luck and have a nice day.........

Hello Rose. I think that I pay attention to my appearance when I have to attend an important occasion. A good appearance makes me feel more confident, so I think that it is very important to me. Have a good day, dear Rose.

Yes W.J.s when we have to attend an important occasion be it a meeting or a wedding,we always take extra care with our clothes and even tend to be a bit self conscious and nervous if the clothes are not to our liking........Thanks for sharing.....friend.......

Hi sree.....yes I am with you...And for your information a typical Kerala lady doesnt walk about draped in ornaments.........She wears simple clothes with hair losely tied and with flowers in her hair. But such ladies have become antique pieces now and this attitude od wearing too much ornaments is a recent developement here......My goodness to see brides flashing 100 soverigns or more of gold ,really suffocates me......I dont know why people show off so much...........

yeah...you are right we have to be a bit conscious about ourselves while presenting to others....i'm a bit conscious i should say, but this should not have any effect on our confidence ,but no matter you are good looking or not you should have confidence this is all that makes difference ...whats the use of looking good but shying away from others or being arrogant .....?

Hi Rose,
I don't think I would be totally self conscious...but that doesn't mean that I am not bothered at all. I like to look good and dress smart. I don't worry too much about appearance all the time....but I like to take the time to look neat and presentable...and am a little self conscious when I haven't done that (that does happen sometimes).

Hi SV,this is exactly what I meant. When we are going out or expexting some one,we always try to appear clean and presentable. But when I have unexpected persons dropping in ,and I answer the door, the first thing that comes to my mind,is whether I look presentable in a nightie,or if my hair is properly in place,etc...

I am always clean, neat and tidy in my dress or at least that is how I start me day off. I also shave every day that I am at work or if my partner and I are going out somewhere. When I am driving the truck and making deliveries I am actualy representing my employers so I feel that it is important that I be as well presented as I can. As I truck driver I do not wear the sorts of attire that say someone who works in an office does, but that does not mean I can be sloppy in my dress and appearance either.
Basically I have 3 different types of clothing. One is a dark blue shirt and long pants plus steel capped black boots for when I am driving the truck. Another is when I am working around the farm and those clothes are generally ones that once I used to wear when driving the truck. When the clothes start to look a bit shabby and worn then they become farm work clothes. Finally there are the good clothes which I wear when we are going out somewhere to see friends or whatever.
Regardless of the clothes and their particular function, they are always clean and ironed before I oput them on. I always take severa changes of clothes with me when I am away from home driving the truck and I wear a clean set every day. There have been times when my clothes have become dirty during the day while I am making deliveries, so when that happens, I will change into a clean set.
It has nothing to do with vanity but simply that I have a responsibility to my employers to be well presented, i.e. clean and tidy. Nothing annoys me more than to see someone who is at work but looks like they need a darned good wash and some clean clothes.

This depends on the people .For example, when I was conducting classes in my own centre, and an institute where I taught English to CAT aspirants, I used to dress up very neatly in classy sarees .I have not really groomed myself but I just wash my face well, gently powder my face and adorn my forehead with a sticker .
The way you dress, the way you talk, and the confidence you exude always played an important part and these were all an assorted bunch of students, -some really good, some deluding themselves to be brighter than they were and the pathetic ones. Whatever they were they never hesitated to ask necessary, unnecessary and smart Alec questions and the manner in which you conduct yourself contributes a lot. When you dress well it makes a good first impression.
After that you have to prove yourself. But appearance does play an important part while talking to customers too.So, I believe in appearing good and neat when I present myself to potential clients and students and when I go out.I love to acquire new sarees and enjoy wearinjavascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMainContent$lbStart','')g them though half the time I loiter around in a simple nightgown/maxie at home.
But I am not self conscious and do not worry about my appearance when standing in front of people.I just get carried away by the conversation, whatever it is, because I am basically a big chatterbox.
When I attend weddings and I dress up in a bit of finery I become self conscious because I am totally hopeless in doing my hair .I feel bad that I look incongruous with my hair slightly out of place .That lasts for a very few minutes and as I mentioned earlier, if I meet some good friend of mine then I forget everything and chat [to my heart's content]
When I normally go out, I just do not bother too much though I just go neatly dressed and with hair combed properly.

Hi Kalav.......thanks for such an elaborate reply, which has given me a wide glimpse of your personality.....Yes the way we dress can reflect in our conduct and our poise, and help us to deal with the situation at hand in a polished and authoritative manner.....Very often its when we meet new people that we tend to be a bit conscious, but when we are with our own kith and kin,we can relax and let our hair loose.....Thnaks for your nice comments......happy mylotting to you.........

Well, i am not really that self conscious... as long as my clothes are clean and presentable... my hair is not messy... i don't smell... and my face is clean... even without make up... i am okay with that...
I am already confident in talking to people... even to those who are superior in terms of profession...

The appearance is quite important for me. If I look worse, I think it will somewhat have an effect on my confidence.

Good afternoon. Nice to see you here. I think that we think alike in this discussion. Sometimes when I don't feel myself looking good, I lack confidence. I care about important and formal situations where I have to be present. Good bye, youless.

Hi Rose o8,
I am quite worried of my appearance in front of other people, I make sure I am wearing the right clothes, and some makeup if it is necessary. I also wish my hair was good, because it is curly at the ends and looks like bull's horns and I want it to be straight. However, I do not have much time to spend on my looks, also I feel I can get vain and proud when I do so, so I only worry about clothes and hair, and pay less or no attention to makeup except for work activities...Thank you. From,
Celin777
