We all have tried to learn or understand a new language at some point of time in our life...have we ever thought how do we approach understanding a new language..which are the first words we look out for? when i go to a place alien to me and where people speak a different language..the first thing that i would like to know is the commonly used abusive/foul/offensive words ,so that i am able to react in an appropiate way :-)

What ever would make you think that responding with abusive/foul/offensive words would be appropriate in any language?

Hmmn what i meant was , local slangs and the foul dirty words in my vocabulary would help me to understand the complexity of a situation if i happen to witness any of those types :-)...i do not like or plan to use them personally...

Whew! That's good. I'm glad you clarified that because I was beginning to worry what kind of person I chose as a friend.

Hi maverickwarrior :) usually, when leaning a new language I will learn about what to say in the first meeting. For example: Good Morning! Nice to meet you, what is your name?. I've learn a lot of different language beside my mother tongue. I've learned mandarin, Japanese and also Arabic. Every each different language have its own different ways to greet someone new :) it is based on their own culture my lecturer said :).like, as I remember, if Japanese they would start by greeting and then talking about the weather on that time. For example if it is rainy, or sunny day, then chat as usual. Well, it is fun and really valuable to learn others language :) coz we just not learning new language but we also learn their culture :)

When I'm speaking to somebody who knows a different language, I tend to want to learn how to say "Hi" or "How are you?", rather than the offensives words, first. Then I like to learn a funny/random sentence that may bring a smile upon others faces.
