I never tell people what I want for Christmas though I might drop hints. I like to have surprises at Christmas though I maybe disappointed on occasions! This year I made a bit of a mistake by telling my mum that I wanted a particular book for Christmas. I went to my son's school fair and ended up winning the very book in the raffle. I rang my mum and asked her if she had bought my gift yet and because she said sort of I told her I had got the book. Now she is looking for someone else to give the book to for Christmas!! If she had told me she had already got me a gift then I would have given it to someone else myself as a gift! So that is the last time I tell anyone what I want for Christmas. Anyway what is the point of knowing exactly what you're getting?
Do you always tell people what you want for Christmas? Are you worried someone might buy you something awful for Christmas so you would rather tell them what you want?

I don't expect anything for Christmas. This way i never end up disappointed. I can open up an online shop with after shaves and other perfumes and also wallets. It seems that my wife and her mother have the same mind. I always end up with these items.

i would rather be surprised, so i don't tell anyone that i want any particular gift. there is two gifts that i can always count on getting each year....a gift card from my parents, it's easier for them than trying to buy gifts and ship them. and my s/o always buys me a couple of pairs of really soft, warm socks to wear around the house. since he hadn't done his christmas shopping before i left for my christmas travels, i'll have a late christmas with him, he did get my socks though. i exchanged gifts with his daughter on the nov 29th, he got his presents from me this past weekend, but still has a surprise in his stocking for christmas morning. i had christmas with my oldest daughter and her hubby tuesday.....less to pack and take to texas next week lol. then i'll have christmas morning in texas....so, a lot of christmas' for me this year lol. and the big surprise gift from me this year is ME! my family doesn't know i'll be there for christmas.

I always tell my husband what i want because he's rubbish at choosing presents....I once got a kettle and a voucher for Christmas. I love surprises though, and my mum in law buys wonderful presents for me...my own mum (bless her) hates shopping so I only get money. I like the things the kids make at school the best, there is so much thought gone into it with love.

Hello humbug! I never said anyone what I want for christmas though because for me, no matter what they gave me, it doesn't matter. Although I would expect a good one sometimes.

Hello,Humbug25.I never tell people what I want for Christmas and other our Chinese festivals. From middle school time,I never got presents from my family and people around me,they thought I was adult, never needed a gift. So for many years,I got nothing for festivals, including Christmas.Of course,if someone give me presents for surprise,I will be very glad to accept.
Best wishes for all.

Mum used to say that my aunts etc were always asking me what you want, I know my aunts didn't have much money so I would say chocolate, or gift tokens is fine, because one of my aunts would buy me presents that well, not to sound too ungrateful but they just weren't me! But I always recycle them so they never go to waste, either they are saved and used for the next Christmas for someone else or they are handed on to someone who can find a better home for them. I don't want or ask for much and I find money is preferable then at least I can buy something that I want. Saves the time wasted going around trying to buy me something. Although a wolf never gets tired of colognes and chocolate and I can never have too many socks!

I get asked to tell people what I want for Christmas. Usually anymore I never get surprised. I always know exactly what I am getting and then I always have to wait until Christmas to get ahold of those items. It's annoying really. It's getting old. I do like getting surprised though. I miss the surprise of not knowing what I am getting. But I take what I can get though. If it means I know, then I guess I just know.

I don't tell anyone except for my husband what I want for Christmas because his family always buys me awful gifts for Christmas. I get so mad about it, I would rather have a gift card than the crap they give me

We always make a list and give it to each other on Thanksgiving Day. A lot of times we get things that aren't on our list tho. The list is mainly so we know what they would like and what sizes etc. We don't have to stick to the list. We like it better that way so we have some kind of idea what to get.

I can see the pro, and the con to that situation fully! A similar item happened to me also, a few years back where I wanted this sci-fiction book, and then I won it later.
If you tell someone what you want, then most of the time you will get it, then it is not a surprise, and also if you tell them what you want and they go and buy it, you may get them sad if they find out you already won it or something.
if you don't tell them, then you have the chance of being upset, and maybe have to take what they get you no matter what. Also, if you know what you want, but you don't tell them then your going to be sad if they don't get it. If you don't tell them, and they might get you something you actually hate! I had that happened to me too...then you just have to sit there with it in your hand...smiling pretending of course...saying I love this! When in reality you don't!
My theory is this, if it is something small and inexpensive you want go ahead and tell them, because if it is small and inexpensive then neither party can really gripe if they did or did not want it.
But, if it is a large and very expensive item, for example a four wheeler or a new game system, then I would not tell them, because the rarity of you winning one is so rare, so it is more of a desire normally than anything else.
Have a Merry Christmas,
