okay so i've got four tattoos and one piercing. I was raised in a christian home. Needless to say my parents don't approve. I however, really like them. I don't really see anything wrong with it. My mom showed me a verse in the bible that said tattoos and piercings were practicing blood letting which is a type of pagan worship or something. I'm not exactly sure. But still. I like them and plan on getting another probably within the next few months. Is it really that bad?

Think of it. You are a christian and you should not think of gatting any marks on your body. Besides it is nothing good, once you put on a tattoo you will not like it in the future. You will just hate it and want to remove it. Do you like waering a same t-shirt for your whole life? Putting on a tatoo is similar to that. Putting on a tattoo is not only bad. Remember as your mother said. Its a pagan custon, it doesn't only affects the beliefe your practicing but also affects your health for the machine the people use to make tattoos are poked into other people as well. The chemicals in the ink goes into your body causing various damages to your system. Are you a teenager? If yes, so am I. We feel that puttting on the tattoo is the coolest thing there is, but yes it might be hard to resist. But just think, wouldn't it be better to stay in good health? maintain your belives and listen to your parents? Why a tattoo when you can buy yourself a new shirt? why bear a lot of pain and reduce your life span? well think about it my friend.

If you like them who cares what others think. Yes it is going against your parents and I guess they are firm beleivers here but are you going to follow your parents how the preach, practice etc? You have to make a stand for yourself. Be the person you are going to be and don't hold back. Yes we all make mistakes in life but getting tattoos and piercings to the individual is not going to curse you or shun you in anyway. Stand out from your parents and be a better person for not mocking what they beleive. As you can tell I don't like people who say these kinds of things.

thank you. i'm getting so tired of people telling me how stupid i am for it. they say that when you get a tattoo, within six months you'll realize whether or not it was a mistake. I've had mine for a year and still love them. I'm getting another one for my 20th. the biggest of them all. a cherry blossom tree to represent a change in life. the person going with me to get it? a member of the worship team! i don't see how it's wrong but people still insist

That's awesome to hear. Just remember don't care what others think of you. You are who you are and you are a unique indivdual. Do what you feel is best for you. I can honestly say I don't think I have ever seen a cherry blossom tree. I will have to look that one up.

it's absolutely gorgeous. really it's just a cherry tree in full bloom. before the cherries actually grow. it's the meaning of it that matters though

I have three tattoos, and a lip piercing (had any eyebrow piercing before too) and am a very devout Christian. In fact, I'm going into the ministry. The passage that talks about tattoos and piercings is often pulled out of its historical context (unfortunately, the church often likes to pull anything and everything out of context if it will help it make its point). The passage is in reference to tattoos and piercings being a sign of pagan slavery in the day. Israel was to refrain from these things in order to separate themselves from the pagans. It was not a moral law, it was a ritualistic law. Ritualistic law has hence past away with the New Covenant. We need to still remain a distinct people but there is a difference between what the OT means by separation and what the NT means by separation. Be in the world, but not of it. I don't see how tattoos and piercings are making a person "of" the world.

I have three tattoos and I absolutely love them. I love my first tattoo that I got more than three years ago now just as much as the day I got it. A lot of people make mistakes but if you get something meaningful you probably will love it always. Don't worry about others when they condemn you for it. They have no idea that it's them that is in the wrong. There's a reason that the Hebrew word for "The Accuser" is 'hasatan'...it's where we get our term Satan from. Live your life. Listen to YHWH and follow him always and let Christ direct you in everything you do...from ministry to getting tattoos. If Christ directs every aspect of your life how can they say that you have let the devil infiltrate?

It really doesn't make much sense to me how one pastor of the same faith will shun me for it but another will ask me head the junior department. they all know i have tattoos. they all know how terrible some of my mistakes are but they still know that i'm different now. they trust me with their kids lives. every one of those kids loves me. the church family loves me. it hurts me that even my family will shun me for it

Most of you say that Tattos are what defines you. But if you are a good christian why should you show others that you are a good christian by wearing tattos depicting crosses and all while, it is before god that you have to testify that you are a good christian. Also our body is more beautiful when we keep it as god created. So why should you do so much of modification when god want you to look the way you are created.

I didn't say that tattoos define me. I just said that i like them. they fascinate me. do you have your ears pierced? then guess what? you just changed the way God made you. do you dye your hair? do you paint your nails? do you whiten your teeth? what i have may be permanent but what about my heart? just because of tattoos, does that make my relationship with christ any less real?

I guess it all depends on how you interpret the Bible. I have not been a "practicing" Christian for many years now (a story for another time perhaps). As a result, I have not read the Bible in quite some time so my opinion may not hold much weight. However, I do believe getting tattoos/piercings is a sin. I remember reading something about not marking up the temple (i.e. our body). Nevertheless, I wouldn't personally hold it against somebody after all we are all sinners. That's just not my particular brand of sin.

the bible does say not to mark up the temple but it says it in the old testament. we are no longer bound by the old laws. just like it says not to drink to get drunk. and yet people still drank to celebrate

There is nothing wrong with Tattoos or Piercings. Absolutely nothing. I understand your beliefs say differently, but as you said you already have four tatt's and a piercing. So no offence, but it seems to me that you either dont believe that your going to burn in hell for it or you dont care or you dont follow those beliefs anymore, I wasn't shure from what you wrote. I dont think anyone should feel bad or be stoped from doing something they want/enjoy for any reason other then if it hurts someone else.

Was reading the discussion and is a good one on tatto's. Do I encourage people to go out and get them? NO? Do I tell them to really really give it some thought before they do it? Yes. Am I a Christian? Yes. Was I before and after I got my tatto? Yes!! As for the idol worship part that came up in the discussion I kinda had to giggle. Some ma worship their tat;s but I don't I got it and I had thought about it for almost 3 years before I did it. I know people that will slame others for getting a tat on their ankle or arm or lower back but yet these same people that give lectures on tatto's go and have a permanent make-up like eye liner, eye brows and lip liner so ummmmm it is the same thing sorry a tat is a tat rather it be cherries on the ankle or make-up. Okay as for the changing of how God made us. That would take in coloring of the hair, cutting of the hair, shaving your legs, pits and where ever,oh and don't forget make-up, and the list goes on. People need to worry about themselves and let God worry about each and everyone. Some people think it's wrong to drink coffee, tea and soda's and yet some others don't so is it wrong? Get my drifts? Salvation is not what others think it is only what God thinks. Your Salvation is between you and God. Does that mean I'm gunna go cover my body in tat's? No. We can't quote and post scriptures but there are also scriptures in there about judging! NO?

oh wow. i am a follower of Jesus and attend a baptist church and am pretty much a rebel at heart. while i dont have any tats, i do have extra piercings and at my church, there are guys with earrings and we mostly all wear jeans to church. its pretty casual. to be honest, i think that God looks at your heart, not your outside.

i truly believe that too! i don't understand why the pastor of one church will judge me according to that but i'm asked to lead the junior department in another? it makes no sense.

I think your mom read it wrong, I don't know the whole story in the Bible but I do believe a group of people who were some type of pagan worshipers, where being described when it mentions tattoos and piercings. It does not automatically mean if you have a tattoo you are pagan.

It's all based off of your ideals and beliefs I guess. Do you think it's wrong? If you did then you wouldn't have four tattoos right now. It's not a big deal you are merely expressing yourself and turning yourself into you. I plan to get a lot of tattoos in the future and I think that each one will make me more of myself because I will have expression to the furthest possibility. Don't let other people decide what your body should look like.

I am not for tattoos but at the same what is important to me is that you are born-again and you are living your life for Jesus don't let anyone stop you from lifting up those Holy hands to the Father. Continue to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit remember what Jesus said " and lo, i am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen" Matthew 28:20. Always remember that God is always there for you even if everyone pushes you away let the Holy Spirit guide you in your decision making concerning every issue in your life. I love you and God loves regardless of what you have done. This is the Gospel.
