Ever have a required book written by the professor of that class?

This has now happened to me twice! I think it is kind of funny, although, I don't understand why we shouldn't get a special discount on those books. Has this ever happened to you?

oh yaa! i have no habit of listening in the class to study. i study when the exams come close and then i will not be having any notes or text. that time i will take it from professor himself or from library. i will not spent money on buying it.

I am a procrastinator myself. I always regret it when exams come around, but truth be told, I don't have a very good long-term memory, so I think it works out better that way

One time, many years ago, my professor was co-author of one of the books we had to use in our communications class. I don't remember what I thought about it as far as if we should have gotten a discount or not. It was too many years ago. I do remember that I really liked the professor and her approach to teaching the class.

So far the two books that I've had to read are on really off topics. "Accounting in the eyes of faith" which relates accounting to Christian principles... I can't imagine why no one ever wrote a book about that before and "Shattering the Myth of Race" which basically, as the title says, refutes the idea of races through scientific proof.

Absolutely. My degree was in history and one of my classes was taught by a professor whose book we studied. I knew that before taking the class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I still have the book and I remember the professor very fondly. They do not give discounts because the book is sold by the university bookshop and it needs to make money. lol.

Yup, that happened during my college years. There was this prof in "arnis" (a kind of martial arts) who wrote that a book about the basics of arnis and then required the whole class or i should say all the students who pick that p.e. (physical education) course. That was really annoying but good at the same time, because that professor is generous in giving high grades. Haha ^__^

You had to read a book about a specific kind of martial arts? Wow... I took tae kwon do and my professor wrote a packet for us to study, but I can't imagine reading an entire book about it. My professor wasn't so generous in grading though, LOL. What was your major?

This actually happened to me this past semester. The book was about 15 dollars and had nothing to do with the class. I read the first page and put it down. Thankfully, we never had any assignments that dealt with it. I think he sold it to us to make money.

This happened in my English class. The professor had us buy his book and we didn't even read it in class or go over it. It only came up on the final exam. What's hilarious (or worse) is that the campus bookstore wouldn't buy it back! The book was ok...not great.

It happened to me in a second year course on the Sociology of Medicine, and I hated it and disagreed with a lot of what it said. It was the only unit in my entire 8 years that scored me less than a Distinction (I got a Credit - 67%). It was what actually decided me to abandon Sociology as my primary major and concentrate on Anthropology and Comparative religion. Anthropology became my PhD area. And no discount, but I did manage to pick up a second hand copy from the student book shop. Lash

i experienced this too.. actually our school is developing its faculty members so as much as possible they want the faculty members to publish a book and this book is use in the school of course so i have no question about this.. this might be an advantage for them because when they teach they know exactly where they are going because they are the ones who made the book.. every semester when we finish the subject we actually take their signitures in the book you know like a celebrity, a fan gerring his or her autograph.. lol!
