Having no antivirus means that you will pick up virus after virus after virus! If your computer becomes so unusable that you are unable to do anything you could perhaps restart your computer into safe mode with networking and try to install an antivirus product. After having done this you can scan your system in safe mode and hopefully everything will be caught. Otherwise, I will reinstall windows if you have the original installation disk that came with your laptop. This would give you a fresh start. You could then install the antivirus product, let this be the first thing you do. Good luck. Andrew

if your hardrive is divided in two parts you can format the part were you think the virus is, that is the only way of getting rid of them and if you didn't know microsoft is the one who makes the virus and they are the one who sell you the cure that is why apple computer don't get virus.

that is one dumb realization dude. first of all microsoft don't profit from any antivirus programs your buy. second most virus now a days are just a reconstruction of old viruses. try not to judge people.

hi owelm!
oh that is bad! what kind of anti virus are you trying to install??? i have always had AVG-Free, well because it is free and easier to use. and i think it is lighter on the computer, unlike norton. if you suspect that your computer is full of virus. back up your files and bring it to your supplier and have it reformatted. that is the best solution there before everything crashes and you will lose all your valuable information. that is the best advice i can give you at this point.
take care and God bless you!
merry christmas! :)

Something kind of like that happened to me; I think I used Norton or something... but there were 17 viruses and I had to get a new CPU. How old is your computer? If its a Windows XP or earlier I think you should get a new one, maybe a Mac because I hear they get a lot less viruses. Luckily for you new laptops generally cost less than a huge CPU. :)

What anti-virus are you trying to install? You can try installing avast! Home edition. It's free and all you have to do is register online for your activation key. If you can't install anything, maybe it's time to back-up your files then reformat. You could try running online scans but they're not that efficient if you have a slow connection. You can also try running a scan from a norton CD if you have one.
