XP all the way, specially if you need your computer for work. Sure Vista is nice looking but it blows on real work usage. Besides, most things you have on Vista you can get for XP or already have for some time on Linux and Mac and with alot less resource allocation!

I think the user is still a bit new to the system and may not have checked for the discussions posted before placing his as well. Just my own thought.

Vista has been a bloat. Xp is by far the best operating system of Microsoft. And there's nothing Xp can't do that Vista can, except for the DirectX 10 support. But anyway, not everybody is a heavy gamer. I think it would be best to stick to Xp for the moment and then directly upgrade to Windows 7, that's due to be released next year. It is rumoured to have the stability and memory requirements of Xp with the look and feel of Windows Vista. Let's hope they release Windows 7 on time.

There could be reasons why I would choose XP, but these reasons are getting less and less by the day, especially since Microsoft released Service Pack 1 of Vista. Here are the reasons I would choose XP. 1. I still need to run IIS (Internet Information Service) 6 for development. the IIS capability for Vista is a bit difficult to navigate, the ease of use for tools depends on what Vista edition you have, if you happen to have Vista Ultimate or Vista Business, you don't have anything to worry about, because the tools are quite decent. If you do have the entry level editions of Vista, it may not be very easy doing IIS development 2) I still have devices which are not supported in Vista, and the manufacturers of these devices will not update the driver codes, to fit Vista, some examples of these devices are old scanners and TV cards. 3) I still have software that don't have their official ports to Vista, or will not even run in comptability mode of Vista. There could be other reasons, but these will be top 3 for me. In terms of performance, that is an area rife for hot debates. As a small experiment though, I installed Vista Ultimate on my MSI Wind u100 (upgraded to 2GB RAM), it does run Vista without hiccups, usable and quite responsive, to add a bit of controversy to this response, I do think it is running Vista better than it was running the OEM of XP (MS Wind came installed with XP Home Edition). Thanks
