religion or an idea

I was hopping around on the Internet and somehow ended up on a site about Scientology, is this really a religion? I started looking at other sites about this and I can't decide if it's actually a religion or is it an idea. I don't mean to make anyone mad but from what I could see, it's all based on the beliefs of L.R. Hubbard and the one site I was on, talked more about him being a "fiction" writer than anything else. is this all true,If so i really find it interesting that people would follow his idea as a religion.if you know anything about Scientology,please set me straight.

yup he made it up but so many follow him look at all the actors and actresses that belong. even Elvis;s wife and daughter. They have sold alot of things and gave to this idea!

I know and I dont think they are really thinking as to me it sounds like a cult like the on John Jones ran . Just hope they dont do a genicide!

You are right. L Ron Hubbard wrote some science fiction. He also wrote some books that I would classify as philosophy. I have heard the term scientology and do believe that it is a new age religion but I wasn't aware that L. Ron Hubbard started it.

I actually found a biography on L.R.Hubbard and can see that he was a very interesting man. he was well traveled and visited many cultures and became knowledgeable of the cultures he came in contact with. but he funded his travels by writing a wide variety of books mainly romance and fiction under a long list of pen names.as far as I can tell the belief of Scientology came from a couple his books.???? Gives a hole new meaning of "the power of the pen" Thank you for responding

Yeah, it's a religion, I think they even have a church and everything. Some people call it a cult, though.

thank you for responding, yeah, I've now read some things from people that oppose it.I see there is a "group" speaking against them.
