Is chrismas really "expensive"?

My oral English teacher is from canada,he told me every year he had to spent money to buy many chrismas presents for his friends and this made him upset because this must cost much money even his all salary form teaching at our school,and he often talking with us about this and often said "chrimas is expensive",maybe he just kidding ,but i was really want to know chrismas really needs so much money or just someone spent money to buy the expensive gifts.

The message of Christmas is all about love and we can always express it even without giving a very expensive gifts to our loved ones....Maybe he just chose to celebrate it that way and if he spoiled all his loved ones with expensive stuff then it's his fault! LOL!
We really don't need to spend beyond our budget, the important thing is our presence, love, friendship and sincerity and those material gifts will just add some thrill on the celebration![/i]
