Harper claims he wishes to make Canada more democratic, but once again he is proving that what he says and what he means are two separate things. Harper concerned that he will be losing power when the house of commons resumes after he dodged a confidence motion by asking the GG to porogue government until the new year. The coward now seeks to stack the senate with Conservatives while he still can despite not having the confidence of the house, and despite his campaign promise of making the senate elected positions. Now I know every politician makes promises they don't keep. But Harper is a really slippery snake that just makes my skin crawl. He passes a law to keep election dates fixed then calls a snap election in violation of the toothless law, then he tries to ram a budget down the throat of the opposition that no same politician would ever support and runs and hides when they fight back, and now despite his campaign to only fill the senate with elected senators he is appointing conservative friendly senators to the Red Chamber. The man is a snake oil salesman and an opportunist.

Mike is right, as long as the power and consent of governance lies with in a monarch or leaders instead of with the people, it doesn't matter who is running the show. The problem lies in the fact is that your leaders have the power to take dictatorial action, such as suspending or eliminating a legislative body in the first place. Support B.C Refed!

Of course Mike is right, however that doesn't mean that Canadians shouldn't be outraged that a man who's main mantra is about democracy is doing exactly what he claims to oppose, in exactly the manner he objects to.

I agree that it isn't about whether or not the Liberals, NDP or whatever party would do the same. It's about whether people should stand for this sort of nonsense when anyone does it. The question goes beyond allegiance to a particular party. It is a question of what is democratic. Consevatives should be just as angry with Harper as anyone else, and many of them are. He has broken promises that are a key part of the Consevative Party's platform. I mean, stacking the Senate? I don't think it will be long before we hear rumblings within the CP itself that Harper has to go. In fact a bit of this has already begun. First he'll be taken down by the opposition, then the CP vultures will swoop in.
