Current Economic Situation Reveals the Lies and Rhetoric of the Left.

Through pretty much the whole Bush administration, the left tried to tell us that the economy was in terrible condition. Variations of the line "I'm doing ok, but what about all those who aren't" were often used when those of us who knew the economy was doing well would make arguments backing our position. In other words, it didn't matter that people were doing well, as long as the left could point to ANYONE who wasn't, it was evidence of a failing economy. The fact is Prs. Bush, Congress, the Federal Reserve and We the People did a great job of supporting the economy through events that normally would have destroyed it. But that wasn't good enough for the Bash Bush Bus. No matter how well things were going, they had to paint a negative picture, lest we give credit to Prs. Bush for anything whatsoever. So now we are really in a recession, and the economy is in trouble. If we are looking at it rationally we can see the difference between a truly bad economy and the the doom and gloom that the left was selling before. Remember hearing about "The worst economy in 50 years"? But now, when this economy is compared to the past, they only go back to the 70s and early 80s. Some of us who remember that recession cited that time as being much worse, but the lefties refused to hear it. The press told them that we were in the "worst economy in 50 years" so by golly, that's all they needed to hear. So what happened? If we are willing to think critically here, we can see that the lies and rhetoric of the left has been exposed. But most people won't do that, most people will simply listen to what the press tells them to believe... even if it completely contradicts what the press told them to believe just a few years ago.

I don't know, maybe I live in the wrong place or know the wrong people but throughout most of the Bush Administration I couldn't point to many people who were "doing OK" and what the press told them had nothing to do with it. I also remember the recession of the seventies and eighties quite well and regardless of what it looked like "on paper" as compared to now or how the righties choose to rewrite history these times are much worse. The gap between the rich and the poor has never been so great as it is now. Health care and energy costs have spiraled out of control and too many good jobs have been lost and have been replaced by much lower paying jobs with fewer benefits. I really wish I could find something, anything to give Bush credit for but I'm afraid I can't. Annie

I remember a lot of people going through really hard times during the Clinton administration too, but according to Billy Boy and the incompetent press, no one was suffering at all. Everyone who wanted a job had one and life was candy and roses. I know you can't give credit to Bush for anything, which is pathetically sad of you.

I don't remember anytime when everything has been "all candy and roses", Ted. The fact is, most of the people I know were doing fine under Clinton and many of those same people aren't doing so hot now. I agree it's "pathetically sad" that I really can't think of anything to give Bush credit for. Annie

how in the name of all that is holy can you say we are worse off than in the late 70's. Simultaneous double digit inflation, unemployment and interest rates then compared to record low interest rates, 5 percent inflation(1/2 percent higher than the all time average) and just over 6 percent unemployment. The worst it got in the Clinton years was just over 7 percent and that was considered full employment by the administration. 5% unemployment has been considered full employment by every administration in our history. You are out of your everlovin' mind.
