Does everything come at a cost?

I am not here talking about the price tags many people try putting to things which in the first place cannot be bought.. but I wanted to know if everything in life comes at a cost? The cost of something does not always have to be measured in money.. but it is done so in many other ways.. Today I was thinking about we keep hearing that 'there are no free lunches in life'.. somehow I am starting to believe that its true.. You have to pay in some way or the other even to do the most simplest of things.. even a thought.. to make it come live.. it cant just happen.. So.. How bout the world come back to the barter system.. I have lots of stuff at home which I don't use anymore.. it's new.. and barely used.. I could sure use it to get something else.. But it would be so funny if I mentioned this to my neighbour.. I specially need to go to some forum to try getting it exchanged.. It has cost us our strength to get us some luxury.. Tell me something that is genuinely free and I promise to respond to every one of your discussion.
