Do you make a list when you go grocery shopping?
I usually do. I'm trying to make a list right now, because tomorrow is grocery day, but I can't think of a single thing to do for next week's dinners. This is usually my problem when I make lists. I want easy dinners, but ones that are also cheap, and ones we haven't had in awhile. That can be hard to do.
I usually buy most of my meat in bulk at a wholesale club, and lots of times they have meat on sale there for a relly good price, so if I go without a list I usually plan my meals around what is on sale that week, but I usually do end up forgetting things and having to go back for them later.
Do you make a shopping list or do you just go to the store and get your ideas once you're there?

My girlfriend always makes a list. She says that making that list actually takes more time than the grocery shopping. She seems to have no problem planning out the meals. And that will sometimes cause her to make changes. She might go with the plan on Thursday she's going to make a meatloaf. She gos to the store and finds there's a incredible sale on chicken. Meatloaf gets scratched off and chicken will be made instead. Also, I hope you don't buy the name brands. We go to meijer and get the meijer brand. The only time she buys a name brand is of course, if there's a sale and it's cheaper. Whatever is cheapest, she gets. And let the kids or anyone else in the house complain. If they want the name brand, tell them to go out and buy it themself.

I never make a list when I go to the grocery store. I just start on one end of the store and walk up and down each aisle and grab what sounds good or that I can remember we are out of. I would probaly be better off writing a list but with my luck I would forget the list at home anyways.

Sometimes I make a list sometimes I just go to the store and see what looks good and look to see if we can find something for a nice price that we can actually use. Sometimes though if I'm really watching my money then I will make a list and make sure when I go shopping I strictly stick to that list unless I see something for a great price that I know I will use.

That's usually what I do too. When I'm really trying to save money I will make a list of really inexpensive meals so I don't spend too much money. Although I do fairly well when I don't make a list too.

I always make a list. If I don't make a list I end up forgetting ingredients for the things I have planned to make. Or I end up getting what i needed plus a bunch of extra stuff that I don't need. so making a list helps me keep the cost down because i only get what we need. I wish we had a wholesale club closer to us. There is a sams club about 40 miles away from us. I have thought about getting a membership but i'm not sure it would be worth it or not.

We get food stamps so we only have a certain amount to spend. If we forget something and need it later, too bad. We have to make a list.

Even when we did have food stamps, it didn't cover our entire grocery bill, not even for one week. We'd use it up one week and pay with cash for the rest of the month.
I think it would be better now, because I'm doing more shopping at a wholesale club, that doesn't accept food stamps. If I paid for that with cash, and only used food stamps at Walmart Supercenter, it would probably last quite a bit longer.

Ours last us 2 or 3 weeks then we scrimp to find money for the rest of the month. I guess it's just the way it is. The cost of food has gone up like crazy around here. We used to spend half of what we spend in food stamps. Since they raised our amount, we can still barely get by because the prices have gone up so much.

I have to make a list or else I end up walking around the store asking my self "what is it I'm forgetting?" and then end up having to go back for what I forgot. I keep a magnet grocery list pad on my frig and whenever I'm cooking I'll write on it what we're getting low on or run out of. The kids also write things they want to eat or ideas for a meal so that helps me stay on top of it.
I have the list broken down into sectins. Most of my dairy foods, like milk, 1/2 & 1/2, & eggs I buy at Braums. Paper goods at a wholesale store and most everything else at wal-mart. Fortunately, I live within 10 minutes of all of these places so I don't spend alot of extra gas trying to save money. Good topic!

I usually only shop at 2 different stores, Sam's Club and Walmart. Sometimes I will stop elsewhere if I have something specific in mind, like today I went to Payless as my daughter needed ballet shoes. Next week I'll go to the dollar store to finish up the stocking stuffer shopping. Sometimes I'll stop at the Salvation Army for clothes.
Sam's is quite a drive, but it's worth the savings.

I just returned from shopping about 3 hours ago. I did manage to get most everything on my list. There were a few items that were not available at the one store I visited. I have to go to another store tomorrow to finish getting the items on my list.

I make a list of things that we are running short of, but I normally keep a stock of all our regular staples, so it's not essential that I stick to a list. Half the time I seem to lose the list on the way to the shops!
I buy up anything that's a good deal if I see it whilst I'm out, but we don't get a list of these in advance so I can't plan for them. I just work with these plus what I have in the cupboard on a day to day basis.

It was my long time habit of making a list of the grocery items I will need for the whole week.We are lucky enough we live near a wet market where we buy food for our daily meal.I don't usually buy frozen meat.I know fish is already frozen.I don't intend to keep frozen food in my refrigerator for long.I don't really take the list along in the grocery I list them before I go out so I will only buy those things and I can avoid impulsive buying where I don't really need them.

I usually make a list - and promptly forget it on the kitchen counter.
I do find that just writing things down will help me remember once I get there, but I usually end up missing a few things. I think that keeping a detailed list does help you keep your grocery bill down. If you can get everything in one trip then you don't have to go back - and then don't end up buying a bunch more stuff!

I don't usually make a list...since I never get everything I need on any particular trip to the store. When i have a specific task to accomplish I will write out the list because it usually means I have time constraints to consider and won't be able to keep running back to the store. I go to the store knowing that I have to prepare so many dinners, have provisions for so many lunches, and things to eat for breakfast for however many days. The rest is left up to my meandering through the isles.

I always make a list when I go grocery shopping. It helps me stick to my budget and prevents me from impulse buying.

First I make a "meal list" of things we'd like to have that week, then I see what I have on hand and make a list of needed items.
Once I get to the store, I may pick up an extra item or two, but usually I'm right on list!

i do also make shopping list everytime my grocery day is near, that way i can plan ahead what to get once i'm inside the shopping area, it's very important to plan your shopping list specially nowadays that holiday season is getting nearer and a lot of people are rushing to the grocery and shopping mall. if you don't know yet what to buy and will just think right in front of a lot of stuff you'll realize that you're wasting a lot of precious time and worse you'll find yourself on the last line of the cashier's booth.

My kids and I make a list when it is time to go to the store which should be on Sunday. I try to make sure we get what we need and there is enough food at the end, but there isn't. but for the most part, yes I do list my grocery items.

I always make a list before shopping for a couple of reasons. The most obvious, so I don't forget anything and the other reason is to keep my on track so I do not buy things I really don't need. I also tend to make my lists in order as they are in the isles I will be waling down, a little crazy maybe but my Mom taught me that many years ago when I was a kid going with her. I always bring my coupons with me and save several dollars with them. I get many of my vegetables and some of my meats at the local farmer's market and the rest at the grocery store on the way home. I usually will but meat in bulk or in full roasts and either have the butcher cut it or I will cut it when I get home. I just recently joined a wholesale club and I am learning how to save there as well.

I sometimes make up a list to give me an idea of what I need to buy, but most of the time I forget the list at home. So the rest of the time I figure why bother making the list. I sometimes forget things and have to get them another time, but most of the time I am pretty good about getting everything.

I used to make a list. Not that it didn't help, but even with a list, I always ended up getting more and more things...
And as strange as it sounds, I only notice I didn't get the items on the list after I have paid... (duh!)
So now, I don't make no list no more.. :) More of what feels good, I get :) I sometimes spend a good 5 minutes standing in front of the meat section planning what to cook.... Wonder if the employees think I'm some 'meat maniac'?
