Having my own car back finally I drove around a couple hours Tuesday evening. I went checking out other houses that were decorated for the holidays. This shot attatched is of a house near me. It is so neatly and extravangantly decorated each year. The lights are all in a nice straight row etc. So unifirm. I truely love the huge word PEACE that goes up the full length of the chimney. Do you drive around checking out decorated houses this time of year? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We used to drive around so much when the kids were little then again when the grandkids were here but not so much any longer. I love when the little ones go see the lights and decorations and all the excitement coming from their little voices.

It seems like fewer houses are decorating outside each year. I guess because of the higher cost of electricity. The gasoline prices are down real low now so people can go out and drive and enjoy them. Our gasoline prices this morning were down to 1.39 a gallon!!!!

We do look at all the lights while out, but the only time we make an extra trip out is at the local park where they have "Whispering Christmas" which almost didn't happen this year. Because the remnants of Hurricane Ike had made the park unsafe, back a few months ago, people from all over volunteered to remove the debris so they could open up this year..We haven't gone yet, but besides lights, they also have cocoa/coffee and cookies in a cabin for the visitors..

The decorations on the house are nice, especially the Peace sign. We have a house on the mountain from us that is gorgeously decorated. It is nothing extravagant, just those wire trees in different colors and other things, but it is so pretty lit up. Then, over on the Interstate, this man has a white mansion, very big and it is all lit up, but what is gorgeous is his huge red and white barn in the pasture (not used for cattle, but parties and others rent it), and the lit up tree floating in his lake. Any time you go by there at night during this season, you'll find people slowing down or stopping on the side of the road to look at it.

We always go on Christmas night. It was a tradition started by my grandfather awhile ago. We still go out every year with my grandma and drive around. It is always a great evening and we wouldn't miss it for the world!

i used to when i was younger, in high school. but havent done it in a while. i might walk around in the neighborhood and check out decorations in the townhouses and apartments in my area. might not be much in this small area. but the association has yellow lights in the entrances of the complex on trees in the area.

I haven't done that in years. I don't drive at night and don't even like getting out after dark, but it used to be a real joy. That house in your picture is one of the most tastefully done lighting jobs I've ever seen. It's well done without being gaudy!

Hello webeishere(Grandpa Bob), I drive around a lot during the holidays, I too enjoy the wonderful designs people come up with, at my house also we have the younger siblings come up with the idea to design, because the best ones are always from the young rascals.

Yes! That is a beautiful and so neatly decorated house. It must take them weeks to do that. The peace sign just says it all Bob. It really is a lovely touch to display that. I always take my younger daughters out for a drive at this time of year to see everyones lights and decorations. I am taking the camera with me so I hope to snap some good photographs when it works properly.

What a beautiful job your neighbors did! Yes, load up the kids (the ones that are still home anyway) and take a trip to town to look at all the beautifully decorated houses. I remember my parents doing that for me when I was younger. The Fairgrounds in one of the towns I live by also decorate, you pay a fee and drive around and look at all the lights. Its really nice. We also drive 50 miles away to go to a town called frankenmuth, its like a christmas town, so beautiful!

Now that gas prices are back down, we will. I was worried for a while. We have a town up the road a bit called Estes Park, the whole town is decorated beautifully for Christmas. We will probably take a cruise up there.

We will usually do some kind of driving around and looking at lights, weather we make a special trip to do it, or just take a detour while driving home from some where else. It is so pretty when entire neighborhoods are lit up. I just love that. There used to be a neighborhood near the subdivision I used to live, people would come from miles away to see the neighborhood, all of the neighbors decorated their houses, and each of the neighbors lights connected to each other in some way. There were two neighbors that had it hooked up so it looked like rudolph was jumping from one house to the other. Apparently this scene was causing traffic jams so they don't do it any more. Very sad.

We did that last Sunday. I was rather disappointed at the lack of houses decorated this year. We drove through nicer neighborhoods too, the kind that you know people have money. I kept looking at some undecorated houses, exclaiming how much potential they had due to window placement, and columns or decks, or the way their roof slanted. It was really depressing to see that these beautiful homes were not decorated. And I know they have the money to do it, must just be laziness.

I went for a walk last night in the rain and some of the houses had their lights on. They were really lovely - but the best light displays in our town are down by the river and I haven't driven down there to have a look since the kids left home. One of the big houses there has a bucket out and collects money for charity. They have little model trains and automated figures ... AND a snow machine (which you wouldn't need!)

We usually wait until the week of Christmas to go light looking. It helps us get in the mood for Christmas without us getting tired of it before it gets here. [i]I'm sorry, I have to tell you what I almost posted before I proof read it and changed it, Hope you get a good laugh: We usually wait until the week of. It helps us get in the mood before it comes.
