There was a study citing that the people who feel lonely are more likely to believe in the supernatural, whether that is God, angels or miracles. When people feel lonely, they may try to rekindle friendships, seek out new ones or, they may create social connections by anthropomorphizing nearby gadgets, such as computer or cars, pets, or by believing in supernatural events or religious figures...any comments?

I do not think so. I have come across many atheists who do not believe in God.
When you are alone, there is every chance that you might do some logical thinking about God and thus, you might come to the opinion that there is no God. God is a myth, a fiction and this truth can be understood only when you are alone.
