I don't know of any doctor who would ask anyone to wear glasses who didn't need them. If he does, he's just out for the money. Both of my children, who are now in their forties, have reached an age where they need reading glasses. Their optometrist told them to go to any store that sells reading glasses and select a pair or two at a cost of $5.00 to $25.00 each pair. Cost for prescription with no correction other than magnification around $200.00+.

I need to use glasses to read since I'm nearsighter. Well, I guess I don't really have to for that fact, but I do anyway. I'm just so use to them that I don't always realize that I have them on. lol

Yes!I use to wear spectacles since my schooldays. To say precisely,I am using it from 1984.At that time I had an eye check up and found a -0.5 power in each eye.The doctor reported it to be a minor defect, but advised to use specs considering my education period. So,I started using one until now and never forget to wear it when reading books. Not only for that,I can be seen rarely without specs except while sleeping or riding my bike under a rain.

I wear glasses all the time because of my myopia, have worn one since I was 14, have also tried wearing contacts but they're uncomfortable. Yup, as one ages the need for having spectacles greatly arises due to the natural deterioration of one's eyesight.

Wearing a spectacle has been my childhood dream - but even now, I have not managed any Doctor to prescribe one for me. I guess wearing a spectacle adds up to one's personality - it gives a 'special' look which is so very important you know.
Though at present I feel I am pretty comfortable without that.

I used two different strength of spectacles. One for reading and one for reading music when I play the piano. I need these because I am much further away from the music sheets when playing than I am when reading a book. I would prefer to be able to do it all without specs at all though! :-)

I have to use reading glasses. In my case it truly was age. I had fine eyesight all my life. The month of my 40th birthday I swear it seemed that everything on the printed page seemed to just shrink. I thought it was mind over matter for a while, but no..... I needed reading glasses.

Yeah, i'm one of them.. lol =D Regardless of reading or writing, i will always need my spectacles with me to see better.. hehe ^_^ PLus, i started wearing them when i was about 11 yrs old, and it has since been with me..
It's somehow true that as one grows older, they need spectacles, but because their eyesight is spoilt, but rather it's failing due to old age.. It's just part of aging and most ple will face it ^_^

I do not use spectacles while reading because I am not short sighted yet. I am not long sighted either. I used to read a lot and now spend a lot of time using my computer.
Generally as people grow older their eyesight deteriorates and at a certain point they will need glasses to read. This natural progression can be accelerated by our lifestyle and the environment. Examples are too much sugar in the diet, watching television programs or computer monitor at a close distance, and staring at very bright lights for long periods of time.
all the best,
rosdimy

I am not near-sighted. But I don't use the spectacles when I am reading. Usually I will wear the spectacles when I am watching TV. I am not sure whether the eyesight will be better when we go old. I hope so.
I love China

I am 20 yrs old currently and I am fortunate that I don't have spectacles.I read a lot of books but still my eyes are good.We should read books in good sunlight due to which our eyes don't have to focus more than necessary.
