I purchased a winter jacket last Sunday and I did not noticed that something in the neck part was damaged. The store was about to close so after I fit, I decided hurriedly that I will buy it then. Two days ago I was about to use it when I noticed the damage. I looked for the receipt and I cannot find it. Im contemplating whether I should try to return it without the receipt. I had tried returning an item without the receipt but it was a gift for me so there's a sticker on the price tag which means that the reciever of that item can return it even without the receipt. But with this case, Im not so sure of. How about you, have you tried returning an item without a receipt? Did the store accept it back?

here they would never accept anything without a receipt because if there is a sticker with the price tag, it still could have been purchased at any store. I did try many years ago to exchange something and was refused.

I don't buy for people if I don't know there size, we I would do if If it ever did happen is give them the bill and let them exchange it themselves, or tell them to give it back to me and I would exchange it but I would more than likely just give them the bill.

Thanks for responding winterose. How about if you will give the item you purchase and you are not sure if it will fit him or not, how could he exchange it without a receipt?

Many times they will stilla accept it back. Are there tags still on it? That would be helpful. Also, if you purchased it with a credit card or check they should be able to look up the purchase, especially if you can pinpoint the date and approximate time you purchased it. Now, getting a store manager to do all that for you will be another story. All you can do is call and tell them your dilema. Remember to be very polite no matter what because people always want to help the nice customers. If I get somebody rude, I don't want to help them at all, let alone bend the rules for them. Good luck.

Hi tuckerbabies.. Yes the tag is still with it and very much intact, but I paid it in cash. Yes of course I should be polite and I am always polite talking with sales or anyone in the store since I know if Im in their shoes and a rude customer would just rant things I might be not so helpful as well. Thank you for responding.

I'm glad you are a polite person. I kind of threw it in there because lately I have experienced a few very rude customers. They get mad at me because of things that are beyond my control. Sometimes I am stunned at how these people act. Good luck with your return. Let us know what happens.

I've returned items without a receipt before. Some stores such as Nordstroms don't require one. The only thing is, without a receipt, a retailer usually will refund you the amount equal to the lowest price that that item cost over the past 30-60 days...whatever their policy is. So, if you purchase an item at full price, the item goes on sale and then you try to return it without a receipt, you will get refunded the sale amount. I guess it's better than nothing .

I have never done this before because I always keep receipts in my wallet for future reference when I tally my billing statement. Anyway, i think some stores will still accept an exchange without the receipt. They have a copy anyway and if you give the right details, like who assisted you, when did you buy it, etc then there shouldn't be any problem. I think the bigger stores will allow you yo exchange the jacket, but not return it for sure.

Hi mimico. I normally keep receipts too but that particular Saturday my bag was so in a mess and maybe I threw out the receipt by accident. I do hope I can have an exchange for it. I will go back to that store tomorrow. Thanks for the response.

Around here they don't do refunds. They even do an exchange or give you a give card with that amount. You can see if they will do that. And explain what happened.

Hi jessi. Im not expecting to get a refund, an exchange of item is enough for me. I dont want that my money will be wasted. I will check if they will still accept it in exchange of either same or different item. Thanks for the response!
