Does song length affect Coheed and Cambria's commercial success?

Every time I listen to Coheed, I can't believe they don't enjoy a higher level of commercial success. One day while I was stuck in traffic, I started trying to figure out why the band doesn't enjoy more commercial success. They market themselves well - even employing internet venues like My Space. Their songs simply rule. They've made Top-Guitar-Tune lists in Rolling Stone magazine. Claudio has a successful graphic novel venture. Rock band features a few of their songs...
Their songs are long -- usually well over 4 minutes and sometimes 7 or 8 minutes long. Most commercial success for Rock bands are the result play-time on radio and tv video shows. Radio stations like to keep their song-length at somewhere around 4 minutes. Therefore, no matter how freaking awesome a Coheed song is, it will rarely be played on the radio. I've actually called into stations requesting C&C, only to be told they don't really play them because of the song length.
So, here is the dilemna: how does C&C increase their radio-play while still maintaining the musical artistic integrity of their songs? Personally, I think C&C should release their regular music, but then endeavor to create radio-versions of several of their tracks. Claudio's a bloody genius when it comes to composition - he could do it.
While the greatness of bands certainly cannot be measured by their commercial success alone, commercial success will usually prolong the life of a band. They have to eat right?
In the meantime, C&C fans need to start to badger radio stations into playing more Coheed.

I love C&C too! You know, I don't think that they should dumb down any songs so that people could hear about them. Metallica went "commercial" and everybody flipped. I could say the same thing about Dream Theater, they don't get a lot of radio play and yet they have a great following. I first heard about C&C from their Good Apollo CD and I was hooked. Welcome to myLot by the way!

Thank you!
I know what you mean but I saw a clip of Claudia saying C&C were ready to throw in the towel (because of lack of success) before their last album and it kind of flipped me out.
Seems to me they have a really loyal following. Everytime I see them in concert (In Toronto, or thereabouts) it's a sold-out crowd.

I like musicians who have story lines throughout all of their songs. To be honest I love the fact that Coheed isn't played on the radio. I know a lot of people who enjoy their music just as I do. Song length is definitely the reason why radios don't play their songs. But some of their longest songs are soo good.
