There are advantages and disadvantages on both.
In an apartment you have more security.Usally the entry of outsiders will be restricted. There will be a security man on duty. The maintenance of your house
is easy. You don't have to run around in search of electricians, plumbers etc..
If you have any old people living with you,the neighbours will be of some help to them in case of any need. But you can not have a big kitchen garden. You will not have
a calm atmosphere.
when you live in an independant house, you are free to do any alterations to your house.you can enjoy calm atmosphere. You can maintain a garden and grow fresh vegetables and flowers. But you have to run around whenever you have to do repairs in your house.
I live in my independant house. What about you?If you are going to buy a new house, will you buy an apartment or independant house?

I prefer a house. I know theres a lot more work involved in a house, but having my own yard for my son to run around in is worth the work. Plus in a apartment everyones so close you can practically hear everything their doing. It's hard to have get togethers when you live in apartments due to the space issue, The fact that you don't want to bother your neighbors. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but I personally feel when it comes to a house the advantages rule out the disadvantages

I'm sorry but a house is looking pretty dawn good to me. I live in an apartment and it's hell. The couples around here are always fighting. There is loud music all hours of the night and early mornings. So loud that the floors shake, or I jump up from sleep and fall out of bed. What takes the cake is they stay from upstairs and throw trash at the back and the lazy super won't clean it. So it's just piling up. I would choose a house a hundred times over an apartment.

You have advantages and disadvantages of living in an apartment and an independent house...
For example in an apartment
You have less privacy, doesnt need to do any garden work, wen its snowing, you dont need to shovel snow.. (thats a pain in the a$$), have access to gym, swimming pool, game room etc..
Disadvantages
Smaller space, high maintainence fees every month, if there is few lifts u gotta wait for elevators during busy hours... cant make alot of noise as neighbours mite complain, sometimes pets are not allowed in apartments or condos...
Advantages of an independent house
Have more privacy, own garage, more space to store stuffs, property value is more, can do watever you like, including having pets etc..
Disadvantages of an independent house
Have to shovel the snow during winter, cut the grass during summer, maintain your backyard, high property tax every year...

i think there are draw backs and pluses to both. living in an apartment when something breaks they have to fix and/or replace it so it does not cost you anything but when you own your own home everything costs you. i like the privacy an independent house provides as well as more room and storage space. one thing i hate about apartments is you never know who is going to move in either upstairs or downstairs from you and if they are noisy it can be horrible to live by them. another plus to owning is that you are not just throwing your money down the drain on something you will never own.

I guess the American term is apartment but as I live in London I refer to this as a flat and this is what I'm living in at present. I would love to live in an independent house as there would be very little noise I think! As I'm living in a flat I can hear everything that the neighbours are doing literally! The walls are so paper-thin! It may take me many years to buy a house, I may never get onto the housing ladder which is pretty sad but all the same, it's a goal worth aiming for. Andrew

Hi There.
I prefer living in my own home. I am living with our parents until now, that’s our home. I love it there but I know someday I have to buy a new home. I have never tried to rent a room or live in an apartment for couple of months or years since I don’t have to be away from home. My work is not that near but I can still commute. Though next year, if I will be accepted in another work that is really far away, I will have to get an apartment to stay or just rent a room then go home on weekends.
Happy Holidays! And Happy Mylotting! Cheers!

I'm presently living in an independent house and would continue the same. If I were to buy a new house, I would definitely but an individual house. Even though many apartments provide electricity for 24 hours and other facilities like a swimming pool and other recreational facilities I would always go in for an individual house. I don't think I'll make use of all the facilities provided by the apartment authorities. Also in an independent house there is full freedom to make any alterations any time of the year. In an apartment only that particular floor area is yours but in an individual house, say having an area of 12000 square feet, u can build not only the ground floor, but also a couple more depending on the permission given by the local authorities. You can even have your own garden in which you can grow whatever you like. Hence I feel an individual house is any day better than an apartment.

I prefer to live in an independent house like where I live now. You're right when living in an independent house, that I am free do do some alterations and renovations unlike in a rented house that you still need permission to the owner. More over, living in an apartment or rented house it's like as if every time you wake up you always dealing with debt or loan unlike with independent house, you're just bother for electric, phone, water bills, etc.

well...each one has its own plus and minus points...till now we are livin in independent house.the will be lot freedom ,space etc .in appartments i think there will be less space...you connot enjoy fresh air...people living in upstairs have this problem.but in appartments there is advantage of secure feeling more scope of socializing, more people, like that.you can also celebrate festivals with lot of people..

For me, I would choose an independant house. Nowadays, it is very helpful to have your house. For more than three years now, I'm still renting a house. Its really a big help when you have your own house because you can budget your expenses, and other important things to consider is the space. You can create your own house more big and you can always design it the way to want it to be.
It will cost you less for your bill payments like water, and electricity. You can invite your friends and relatives anytime you want. It's all your control. Ease up. Start having your dream house. Smile.

i prefer to stay in independant house the main and formost reason is that it gives more freedom to your life u can do what u like to do dont want to worry what others feel and say about ur doing. u r independent will not disturbed by any one from outside and no resitriction for u from others. at the end of every bodies life they look to have an independant house which is the prime goal of each person .

I would prefer to live in an apartment. It's more cozy and less maintenance work is needed. Also less risk of insects invading the house.

well when you compare the two a house you have to pay water bill but if you live in a apartment you don,t have to pay water bill.apartments you can,t cook outside most of the time but in a house you have your own yard to cook out.i think a house is more private then apartment.neighbors live to close together.but if you own that house it,s not really better because if anything go wrong you have to have the house fixed whereas a apratment you can just pick up the phone and tell the land lord the apartment needs fixing.but if you renta house the same things going for the land lord as the apartment.

Apartments are good when its just you or you and a roomate or spouse. Apartments are even ok when you are newlyweds starting out and you have your 1st child. But then when you add pets and more kids into the picture, I think that homes are the better way to go. You are responsible for maintaining both the home and the yard etc. but its yours too and not right now with they way the economy is but it will get better and its a great investment.

I have had houses more than I have been in apartments. I can tell you right off I love living in a house. As far as security I usually have a system installed. Then I have a dog or two and my cats. If I do not hear something the animals will. They are the early warning detection system and the securioty system is by backup......makes alot of noise.......I love to garden and in my former home that I just lost I had all raised beds. I planted vegies. herbs and flowers. As well as fruit trees and all kinds of ornamental plants. Yes I Love the freedom of living in a home.

I live in an independant house. I have lived in apartments but I never felt like I had my privacy.I could here the neighbors upstairs walking around or the ones next door arguing.I'm sure they heard things out of me to.No one is quiet as a mouse. To I am free to have pets or remodel if I choose.Of course I'm resposible for repairs but I think it's worth it.
