In many countries for keeping TV still a TV license is required. Earlier their was similar licensee for radio, probably it is not there anymore. Frankly speaking it is not possible also as many of the mobiles also have radio now. So ultimately one household would have ended up paying many radio license fees. Probably government earns revenue from the renewal fees. But TV is now not anymore a luxury item and this license or the renewal fee should be abolished. Well if the fee is for big screen expensive TV or the TV being used for commercial purpose then the tax or renewal fee sounds justified - but not for all.
