Does the cold weather affect the gas mileage of your vehicle?

I think that the weather does affect the gas mileage in a way. The vehicle has to work harder, in way, to do its job. So it's going to take more gas to keep it going.

Well the answer is yes and no both. If you have a petrol car, it shouldn't affect the performance of the engine, as petrol's combustion temperature level is quite less and petrol engine runs smoothly when your engine is less heated. But if you have a diesel car, the combustion temperature of diesel is very high and it requires to be under pressure for such combustion, hence the more temperature on diesel car, more performance it gives.

I'm not so much talking about the engine. I'm talking about miles per gallon. It does seem like I'm getting a few less miles per gallon than I did before.

Well your car seems to be a petrol car. Well if the temperatures are really low, then yes it can affect your mileage. how much has the mileage dropped by?

the O2 sensor is a critical factor in determining whether or not an engine is running in open or closed loop operation. However, it is not the only factor. If an engine is not running at normal operating temperature it will not enter closed loop. Coolant temperature is also not the only factor that determines open/closed loop operation. There are several other factors such as throttle position and engine load.
