Both words as well as melody is important. I am a passionate lover of music and I pay full attention to words as well as melody. Suppose there were only words, then the song has no meaning and suppose there was only melody and no words, then also the song has no meaning.

I'm a lyrics girl! A good melody definitely helps, but a good melody won't mask lousy lyrics, for me at least. I can't tell you how many weddings I've been to and fought to keep from laughing when the couple chose to dance to a song with a beautiful melody but totally inappropriate lyrics. HINT: If your choice of first dance music is a break-up song, maybe you need to re-evaluate this union before it happens!

I agree with you. Sometimes the words move me. Sometimes it's the beat or the types of musical instruments used. Or it could be a combination of the two that sends my heart flying or my foot tapping... I think the soul of a song is how it makes you feel.
