hi all! we all know that real depression is a medical disorder that needs immediate attention and treatment. however, some people may confuse clinical depression, or real depression, with just a feeling of sadness or "feeling down". my question is, before seeking the advice of a medical professional (e.g., a psychiatrist or psychologist), what could be the possible telltale signs of a real depression, as compared to just feeling very very sad?
thanks in advance!

depression is overloading the mind with multiple thoughts or pressures, that the mind or brain cannot able to withstand..so we burst out in depression and tension.

I think if you have had depressed symptoms for a long time with it never going away, I think it's safe to say it's real depression. Even with all moods of sadness, it's all REAL. My therapist once told me that it is confused with situational depression and clinical/chronic depression. Either way, it's still very painful.
