I am in the process of writing a babysitting course for 12 yr olds that would involve not only the regular topics but also basic cooking techniques, meal planning, and preparation. My question for you is: When you have a babysitter do you leave a meal already prepared or do you leave instructions on what to cook? Also what kinds of meals would you want or not want prepared for your child(ren)?
Menu's I am thinking of so far are:
Macaroni & Cheese either alone or with Hot Dogs
Spaghetti and Meatsauce
Eggs & Toast
Toast & Jam
French Toast

I think that a few other menu choices are :
Barbeque Chicken and Rice
Grilled Cheese
Fried Bologna
Okay so maybe these are too simple, but that's all I could think of. If I were to leave a babysitter with kids I would have to say that I would need to know them well, so that being so, I would know if they could cook. I might already prepare a meal if we ate earlier, or if I knew We'd be gone for awhile.

in the long distant past, when we had need of a babysitter, I don't remember ever having left them to make a meal for my children. We always either fed the children before hand or prepared a meal for the babysitter to eat with the children.
I think that 12-year-olds will benefit greatly from your courses. If I were to choose menus, I would suggest boiled eggs with toast fingers, beans on toast(from a tin), or, maybe, something like fish fingers and chips -- sorry that would be fries to you.
