mehendi function

We used to celebrate these mehendi functions a lot.but what is their significance.We sent so much on these mehendi functions.And set example for others to follow by spending a lot on them.But I think all this should not be done.We muslims have inherited this from hindu culture.They used to have these mehendi functions in which they dance and sing together.Girls and boys use to dance together.
