Tired of the Environment

I am getting so sick of having "the environment" shoved down my throat every time I turn around. Now before I go on, you should know that I love the great outdoors and am in total agreement that we should be responsible with this earth. I'm all for that! But what I hate is how commercialized the cause has become. Every company now uses the environment as a marketing ploy. "We're more environmentally friendly", "We're minimizing our environmental footprint", "We're purchasing green energy", and on and on. Yesterday, I actually saw baby wipes promoting themselves as being environmentally friendly and responsible for using 100% cotton and minimizing their environmental footprint. You know what an environmentally friendly baby wipe is? That's right: a washcloth that you wash the poo out of over and over. That's minimizing your waste! And what about all these hybrids out today? Have you read Consumer Reports review of them? Turns out these insane MPG's they claim are only possible if you drive the car in a special way with lots of coasting and braking to build up the battery. (oh, and not driving over 20 mph) In fact, they usually get WORSE mileage than standard models. Oh, and did I mention that the benefit only lasts a few months before the battery fails to hold a charge? Green energy? Did you know that no windmill has ever yet paid for its own production with the energy it produced? How about going organic and reducing the pesticides we're putting on everything? I for one am not a huge fan of salmonella, and all the most recent epidemics and scares of food borne illness like that have been traced to organic foods, cause they're not treated. Now I'm not saying I want to drink a gallon of the stuff, but I like mosquito repellent a heck of a lot better than malaria outbreaks (ask Africa). Look, I'm not saying that I think we should trash the environment or build a bunch of big land fills. I'm just saying that I'm finding myself LESS likely to buy something that declares its environmental commitment. I'm tired of being told I should feel guilty. Anybody with me?
