You're stranded on a deserted island and you can choose only 1 book. Which one?

So I have a hypothetical question to ask everyone. You know that You'll be stranded on a deserted island and you can only bring one book with you. Which one will it be??? Now, for those of you who may want to veer off on a tangent, the choice of one book doesn't mean that any other item must be left behind. So there. My choice would be a dictionary. It's a big book, it will take a long time to go from cover to cover. It has within it lots of interesting material. You can learn a lot from using the book. Finally it won't get as boring to go read through over and over again as other books invariably would. Please state your choice and give a reason as to why you would choose that book as opposed to all others. Cheers.

You are a very practical person. Because you have turned your book into a dual function item, you have freed yourself to choose some other vital item for your stay on the deserted item.

I have never read one, nor have I seen any of the movies. It is a very popular series. J.K. Rowling has a lot of cash. Is there any reason why you like this series so much?

If I were stranded on a island, the one book that I would choose would be the bible. Not that I am a religious nut or anything. But I have probally read all of the bible at one time or another but never page for page, front to back. I figure this might be a good time to do it.

If it is the only book to read, you'll want to savor every last single word. The bible is definitely a large book. Many people spend their whole lives studying it and are still able to find new meaning from the pages. With so many people spanning such a large period of time coming up with so many interpretations for the meaning of the stories written in the bible, there is definitely enough material there to keep anyone busy for long enough. Cheers.

Hi Bayernfan, if I have to choose from my personal library, none of them would be enough to last me through. I've to choose a book, that will keep me occupied and interested. A dictionary would be too academic for me; maybe I will choose the bible. I'm not particularly religious (I hardly go to church), but I remember that the bible has loads of stories that I've never really read through. Now if I'm left on a deserted island, I think I would have a lot of time to read it from cover to cover.

Well I didn't devise of any restrictions on original location of the book at all, let alone to personal libraries only. Only that you had the option of just one book, whichever one that you wanted, from wherever it came from. It's just a fun hypothetical exercise. I don't think that one has to be a practicing member of the religions that follow the bible in order to find it an interesting study. The bible is bound to be a popular choice.

Wow, ok, this is a freaky question, but I guess I would have to say the bible. You're going to want something long. And I think of all the long books that I have read, and then you think . . .you had better go for something new, that you haven't read. I have never read the bible. And it is interminably long. And it is somewhat juicy and interesting. Yep, I'm taking the bible

I would venture to say that the bible would certainly be a popular choice. The bible definitely is long and it has much to discuss and analyze. Juicy and interesting...that's a unique way of putting it. Kind of like the world's first soap opera.

oooooh so many books and only one can come with me. hmmmmm I would choose Wuthering Heights. If I am going to be tormented on a desserted island I might as well read about the torment of others while I am there... and it is one book that I never grow tired of reading.

Well, if you only get one book, you might as well choose one that you will enjoy reading over and over and over again. I would surmise that being stranded on a deserted island will be as much torment as you can make of it and dependent on the people, if any, that are enduring the process with you. Thanks for responding.
