Do you put up a Christmas tree every year?

From the time I was little, I can always remember my parents putting up the Christmas tree. As I grew older, moved out and got married, we also had a Christmas tree as my son grew up.
Now that he is 26 years old and moved out, we haven't put up a tree in the past 5 years. It is just my hubby and myself so we can't see the point of all the work to put it up and take it down, just for the two of us.
If my son ever gets married or has children of his own (our grandchildren) we might go back to putting one up again.
So what about you, do you put up a Christmas tree every year?

I do.....and even if I am by myself I still put one up. I love Christmas and I think that the tree is a very important part...I love having my living room lit up with all the lights and since I collect snowmen I love having the opportunity to display them.

Hey CharRay! I don't put my big tree up anymore because of
my 2 cats and the fact that it is too much work to put it
up and take it down. My cats are almost 5 years old and
they are climbers so I know the tree would be down in a
minute. I have been putting up a 2 foot tree on a table
the last few years. It's not really fun, but it's better
than no tree at all. I am in the middle of re-decorating my
apartment so I have to finish this week so I can at least
get the little tree up. I usually decorate the house too.
But, if I don't finish this week I don't know how much
decorating I will be able to do.

Hi Carol
I know what you mean!
I can't imagine what my five dogs would do to a Christmas tree! My one mini-schnauzer is like a two year old kid-he is into anything. Knowing him, he'd try to climb up the tree like a cat. Another reason to not put up a tree. lol
Thanks for your response!

Yes, we put up a Christmas tree every year. It has been our tradition. I know how hard to put up a tree and decorate them especially putting Christmas light but I think it feels like something is missing during the holidays if we don't have the tree up.

We usually do put one up every year however there have been times where we couldn't and the times were, once because I was staying with my parents while hubby was in Korea for a year, he was in the army. Second time was for two years in a row and that was when I was home helping to care for my terminally ill grandmother for about 2 months and the following year was because we had moved and our things were in storage. There were other times as well but I can't remember the reasons off the top of my head but I do remember them happening. This year is a wee bit different, we don't the spirit this year because of all the bad luck or happenings that's been going on. I call it "my person hell year" so we've lost the spirit and decided not to put the tree up or any other of our decorations Except maybe the manger scene because after all, it is Christ's birthday. I have to acknowledge him and let him know that I thank him for the miracles that he's given us this year and that I only have two more, that my mom gets well & dad is ok and their house gets sold this month.

Hi my friend,
I just don't have the spirit anymore because of all the commercialism that Christmas has become. We are supposed to celebrate Christmas as it is Christ's birthday and not to just give gifts and spend money we don't have.
I hope your 2009 is a better year for you.

To my dismay this will be the first year that I don't have a Christmas tree up. Since moving my fiance and I haven't been able to find the time to be able to do this. Not only that but we're leaving for Christmas vacation to see our family and are leaving our cat at home (with a cat sitter) regardless we understand the cat sitter wont always be there with that being said she'd get in to misc hive and with the tree all done up heaven knows what she'd do to it. Next year perhaps we'll look into doing this we'll have to see how everything goes.

Growing up I had a Christmas tree every year. My mother is obsessed with real trees and buys a bigger one every year (much to my stepfather's chagrin). However, I never had a tree of any kind in my own house until this year. An artist I was selling books next to makes cute little fake trees, and she was offering 5% off for every can of food you brought for the food bank. I got this cute little orange tree at a 30% discount. Now, he's in the closet waiting for next year.

I don't celebrate Christmas, I have never put up a Christmas tree in my house. Usually I only rest during the Christmas holiday, but don't do anything special. Some of my friends go for church events even they are not Christians, some go for parties. :)

we always have had a tree, since i was little. after i moved out and got married i always put up a tree. even the year i was alone for christmas, i put up a small one. now, even though it's just me and my s/o for the most part, we always have a tree, usually a real one. this year we put up an artificial tree, since i'm away for the holidays, and due to thw cast on my arm. i also figured this way he wouldn't have to mess with a real tree while i was gone.

Your tree is beautiful! I love the Santa Hat topper! I've seen all kinds of toppers, having worked 6 years in a christmas store, but that's unique.

In a way I'm kind of a Scrooge. I get so fed up with all the commercialism, that I'd just like to go into hibernation and not come out til it's over, but I've had grandchildren living next door for 17 years. After my youngest daughter moved out, I didn't put up a tree the next year. My grand daughter was very disappointed, "but Nana, it's Christmas! You gotta have a tree!" God bless the children.
I've put up a tree every year since. I don't do the gift exchange thing, there are just too many. I make them Christmas ornaments, and I put up my old tattered tree and drape lots of "stuff" on it so you can't tell how old it is. It really does perk up the holiday season for me, since I live alone except for one cat who's nearly as old as I am. (in cat years)

I love Christmas trees! I definitely put one up every year. When I was younger, it was my job to go with dad and pick one out, and then to come home and decorate it. I don't have space for a large tree in my current place, but I do still keep a small tree and make sure to light it each night during the holidays. I can't wait until I have a bigger space and a large, live tree again :)

Dear CharRay,
You still have time to put up that tree. I am sure that both you and your husband deserve a tree so why not put it up? It makes the atmosphere seem happier just looking at a tree. You do not need to have your son there to put up a tree - do it for yourselves!
However, if you think of it as work and a big pain then it would be best to not bother. I always put up a tree even the Christmas before I married and I was living in a small bedsitter - I had a little Christmas tree. If you decide to do it - then put the gifts for each other under the tree. Have a wondeful Christmas - tree or no tree LOL! Blessings

Hi friend CharRay7,
I never have put up a Christmas tree as I am not a Christian by religion. Also I do not have any friend who is a Christian and puts up Christmas tree. So cannot actually feel the difference of having and not having it. But can understand that you are missing some enjoyment. In our part and religion, the festivals are celebrated differently and at different time.
However, when there is no one except the two of you there is nothing much to enjoy.
Hope your expectation come true early

Who doesn't put up a christmas tree every year? It would seem weird if we didn't put up a christmas tree to be honest. It's a tradition for my family as well to have a tree up. It makes christmas better in my opinion.
