Should the west be involved in Afghanistan?

Hundreds of men have died in fighting and ambushes since UK and USA invaded Afghanistan - ostensibly to get rid of Bin Laden and the Taleban. Teh fighting still continues. It is still unsafe there. What is the point of us being there? Should we now pull out? UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown is visiting and condemed the Taleban for using a 13 year old as a suicide bomber.
