Well, I guess not many people except Magpies fans expected such a result from a 5 match unbeaten Portsmouth at home.
First-half was controlled by Portsmouth, but they were denied by Shay Given a couple of times.
Second-half saw Newcastle coming back, with fast midfielders tearing pass the field. This is quite a transformation from the first-half and previous game, whereby they kept using long ball or loss possession meaninglessly. Michael Owen scored the first goal on his birthday, while hardworking Martins got the 2nd goal. Thankfully that came before the substitution of Martins, where I think JK has learnt his lesson.
Ameobi which sub Martins is surprisingly good, with size and pace altogether. This is quite a transformation as compared to the previous seasons.
Newcastle needs confidence, and they just got it. Do you think this is the turning point for Newcastle Untied?

Yes, i am glad Owen scored and there are rumours saying that owen is returning to liverpool in Jan and i dun know how true is that but liverpool badly need a striker. Martins to me was fantastic. he was fast and hard to play against. he has the strength and able to match most world class strikers except his finishing. He needs to work on his finishing and he is there among the best. I was surprised Portsmouth lost so badly and Crouch was a disappointment. I guess leaving liverpool is not a wise choise and he is really struggling at his games now

Yeah. Crouch tried a couple of long range effort and failed miserably. If he can work on that, he will be a brilliant striker.

crouch didn't have any other choice than leaving the Reds, because liverpool have so many good striker now. i don't understand why you said liverpool need striker?
Torres, Keane, Babel, Kyut.. i think it's enough.
maybe because benitez always played kyut and babel as winger. but originally they are strikers.

I wont call it the turning point yet and we should not get carried away. But it was an awesome performance by the lad. We have 3 cleansheet in a trot away from home. Dunno when was the last time we were so solid at the back. Guthrie scoring from the midfield is a big bonus. Hopefully more goals will come from out midfield players. Hope we can do well at totenham and wigan. Out home record have to improve slightly and we could aim for a top half finish. Mike ashley statement also shows that the club is stablising. Hopefully this continues

Beware the injury curse!!! I really hope to see Alan Smith in action. Maybe he will be a new inspiration for Newcastle.

Great result for Newcastle getting a valuable away win and some goal differential help to boot. I was also glad as I have Martins on my fantasy team lol. Watch out for Newcastle as they could put a nice little run together I think.

i really hope so, i watch the game on one of the live TV streaming..
i'm happy for owen because he is scored on his birthday..
this is the real newcastle united!! :D
but all newcastle united need is consistency.. they often play good on the first half and ruin the game at the second half or vice versa. they need to maintain their good performance, at least for 90 minutes.
and i think martins should have score twice, his great strike unfortunately only hit the post.

Martins is awesome. He can score anywhere from within the opponent's half.
