Should the Governor of Illinois resign?

ABC News: Disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has no plans to resign, "at least today," his spokesman told ABC News, despite Illinois Attorney General Lis Madigan's announcemet that she has asked the state Supreme Court today to declare Blagojevich "unable to serve," setting in motion a process that could force him out of office by the end of the day. What do you think should he resign or wait to be impeached?

If he resigns he can save him self politicaly but yet then agian he will look very guilty and that could kills his political career so yeah. I think though he should resign and that way the state can get a new governor with out having to go through the process of impeaching him from office.

I believe that he is entitled to hold office until he is convicted of a crime. He is still an innocent man until they prove him guilty. Many of you forget that it is only the Republicans (according to their party rules) who make you resign from Congress when you are indicted of a crime. A Democrats can serve after being convicted unless the law forces them out. The longer he stays in office the stronger his bargaining power is and he can cut a better deal. Just think who will go down if he starts to talk and now with his wife under investigation this is just getting interesting. The question is how many of Pres elect Obama's friends will be in jail over this? Pres Elect Obama is very deep into Chicago Politics and has been playing on both sides of the fence. He even claimed that the present governor was the best one to clean up the corruption in IL politics.

Being from the southwestern part of Illinois, we have known for some time that Blago wasn't a very good governor. Appropriations for highways and other important projects have been very meager in our part of the state. However, I don't believe it is right to tie all politicians from the Chicago area together. We have had some very good members of congress and some shady ones. It seems our track record for good governors leaves a lot to be desired. Our ex republican George Ryan is in prison and other governors before him have been accussed of all sorts of wrong doings. I'm afraid that I would have to see proof that some of the claims made on this board are true before I could believe them. So I don't think it is fair for anyone to spout things that are made up or are just hearsay. As far as dragging President elect Obama into the muck, I don't think that is proven or fair to make such statements.

I'm with you, Iriscot, and you should know best since you're from that state. I know they were saying on one of the TV shows that there's more than one "wing" of the Chicago political "machine" as they call it. This guilty by association, which ONLY applies to liberals and/or Democrats of course, is getting sillier by the minute. If two people have one friend, no matter how casual, in common that makes them best friends and means they share all the same philosophies. If someone's father had a "questionable association" that means they're also corrupt. Naturally, if someone had any political ambition at all that has to mean they're crooked if they're a Democrat, right? Finally, if someone supported someone long ago, no matter how many others also supported that person and he or she turned out to be other than he'd or she had claimed to be, well that supporter must be equally guilty, right? I think I got it! Annie

Maybe Mr. Fitzpatrick should bring them all in front of a grand jury and make them testify, with out notes, as to each and every contact and conservation and if they can't answer exactly or if their recollections don't match up he can convict them of a process crime and send them all to jail. President Elect Obama has already "Lied" to the American people about his contacts with the governor. He stated that he has had not contact with him over the Senate Seat, yet there is a TV interview where he tells the interviewer that one of his first priorities was to meet with the Gov to discuss his vacant Senate Seat. Lets apply the same standard he used in the CIA Outing. Call everyone before the Grand Jury and get all emails and phone records. Then we need a congressional investigation as to why the investigation was ended before the crime was committed. One thing this will show is are the Democrats interested in Justice or just bashing Republicans. In the 2006 election we were promised that if the Democrats were elected they would clean up the Corruption in Washington. All we have seen is reports of corruption but no action.

He should resign ASAP, people in Illinois are very upset. I am not sure why he is still pretending that nothing happened... He probably wants to take out the rest of privilege that he already abused....

I think he should have resigned at least a week ago! He's really starting to remind of that song from the sixties (I think) that goes, "They're coming to take me away, he-he, ho-ho-, ha-ha...!" Please, SOMEBODY take him away already! Him and his hair...lol! Annie

He has every right to stay in office. He can talk all he wants but he has done nothing wrong. I can develop a plan to cheat people out of their money but if I don't act on it what have I done wrong. What if he testifies at trial that he was doing research for a book on the Corruption in IL politic and this was a sting operation to see who was willing to bribe a public official. Who gave him money and did he appoint anybody to the office? What if he claims that one of President Elect Obama's aids offered a job in Washington and knowing his phones were bugged he was trying to get them to call him to get it on tape and Mr Fitzgerald ended the investigation to protect President Elect Obama and make the Gov the fall guy? I think the Gov is a Sli.. Ball and should be in prison, but that is up to a jury to decide based on the facts and all this trying the man in the press before the trial could be an attempt to force a deal on what might be an innocent man to avoid prison but circumvent the election process to remove a Governor from office.

Thanks for that! I couldn't remember the exact year it came out but I was pretty sure it was the sixties. A DJ from my hometown radio station at the time got fired for playing that song over and over again for hours on his show one morning! Yep, they came to take him away, he-he...lol! Thanks for supplying all the lyrics also. They should show clips of Goofy Gov as that song plays on TV whenever they're going to do a story on him. Annie

He should, but only because he got caught and it will be impossible to do his job now. He's no different than most of the politicians running the country today.all the others that have dealt with him in the past want to get him out so they don't look bad or get sucked into the big corruption orb that's going to follow him.
