I think truck drivers rock! :]
My husband is driving a truck now, it's a new career choice for him and one that I am having a hard time supporting at the moment but it's something he has always wanted to do. He is much happier behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler instead of in a warehouse being treated like dirt by some power-tripping boss in a tie.
I miss him like crazy because he is away from home more than he's here and I've had a lot of really bad days where I go from missing him to being really mad at him to just crying all night long because this is not the situation I wanted for my life - but it is what it is.
I think truck drivers are under-appreciated by the general public. Most people have nothing but bad things to say about trucks on the roads but they don't stop to think of what this world would be like if we did not have these dedicated men and women driving trucks 24/7 across this great country.
They drive through snow, hail, rain, storms, wind, heat.. they go days without taking a shower because they end up spending their sleeping hours at a rest stop and not a truck stop. They eat fast food or snacks instead of real meals and they get paid pennies per mile for it all.
I have a newfound respect for truck drivers.

If you are ever broke down on the highway you are more likely to get help from a truck driver than anyone else. I have always wanted to go to school to learn how to handle the beg rigs. I did have a job one time where I traveled all over the country. I didn't drive an 18 wheeler however. I drove a F350 dualie and pulled a car trailer. I delivered cars and motorcycles from coast to coast. I wish I was still doing that.

As a whole, they are dedicated workers trying to get the goods everybody wants to the destination they need to get to and getting darned little credit for putting up with the average and below average auto drivers that have no clue that you can't stop an 18 wheeler on a dime. I get so tired of reading all these horror stories about lousy truck drivers! I've had to share the road with a few very inconsiderate ones, but most of them are courteous and well trained drivers.
Oh, by the way, I was married to a truck driver for 20 years and of all the bad things I could say about him, not one involves his abilities as a truck driver. We have a son who is also a truck driver, so I do know what I'm talking about.

truck drivers do a great service that people don't think about. If it weren't for truck drivers what would the department and grocery stores sell or businesses for that matter.this country would shut down if not for the job that drivers do. (or they could ship everything by car.
