My Sony Vaio laptop uses an Intel Centrino Duo core processor. I noticed that my laptop was getting got when playing Monato Esprit, so I installed SpeedFan to monitor my computers temperature. It's telling me that my Duo Cores are heating up to 60 degrees Centigrade while my HD0, Temp 1 and Temp2 are running at around 30. Is it running hot? should I get a cooler of some kind? if so, what do you recommend?

While 60C isn't optimal, it is well within safe tolerances for newer Intel dual-core mobile CPUs. You probably have a Core Duo, as Centrino isn't actually a CPU model; rather, it i a combination of mobile technology. My MacBook Pro's Core 2 Duo gets much hotter than that under heavy use... Although the hottest part of this machine is the GPU. I have had my case up past 100C. Just don't touch anything that hot. But a cooler might do you good, but is not strictly necessary.

Wow, I guess I learn something new every day! to be blunt, I'm going to buy a second desktop computer for gaming and what not. I'll keep my laptop for work and hopefully my computer won't catch fire!

Here's a question. Are you playing on a surface that insulates heat. I used to play a lot of games on my bed and because of that my laptop used to over heat to the point that it would shut down in the middle of my play time. Also, i'm told that Sony Vaio have over heating problems so you should probably get a cooling pad, and maybe switch laptops. I believe that Sony makes everything great, except laptops. It's just a fact of life.

I play on a wood table top. but since things have been running hot. I've got both ends of my computer propped up by a book and a giant box fan blowing in from the end. It might be overkill but it's a temporary fix till I can get a cooling pad.
