How often do you throw out old stuff?

I noticed that old people tend to collect all sorts of stuff. In my country, due to communism era, people were used to keep stuff in case someday they would need it. Unfortunately, there were no Malls or supermarkets back then and you had to buy something from the black market. People had cards for food, you could get only one loaf of bread per person and one bottle of milk. Now the times have changed, for 20 years now, and many old people still tend to collect stuff. I mean, you can find whatever is that you want all over the place, you can find the cheap version or the expensive one. My parents used to keep all sorts of things too. But many years ago they decided to get rid of all that. I know, sometimes you get attached to stuff but why fill your home with all sorts of junk that are useless? Do you collect broken stuff in case you might need it? Or you go to the store and buy another one? How many useless stuff do you have in your home?

I don't throw stuff out as often as I should. I have a huge collection of shoes, and my husband made me a massive shoe rack to keep them all in. Then he made the rule that if I bought a new pair, I would have to throw out another pair to make room. This worked about twice. Now I just put the new shoes in other places, like under the bed or in the bottom of the wardrobe. The thing is, many of the shoes still have lots of life left in them, they are not ready to be thrown out. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. We also have a loft/attic in our house, which is really useful for storing stuff out of the way. We were really good to begin with about throwing stuff out as it was replaced. But now we find we can't move up there, it is really cluttered with stuff. Perhaps I will have a clear out over the holidays. :)

Haha, I used to have lots of shoes when I was living with my parents. But I had to get rid of most of them. I realized I don't really need so many shoes.

It is not about needing shoes, I really don't need all the pairs which I have. It is more of a wanting issue which I think I have. Bordering on the obssessive compulsive need to buy more shoes.

I know what you mean. I'm having the same problem. I got attached with the junk. I'm trying to train my self always to throw away junk every time I see one. But so far its only succed 50%. hahaha... but I always review all the junk I keep every year with hope that I can throw away them.

I don't buy too many things so i don't really throw too many things out. Maybe when I have enough money to spend on things I might have the chance to choose to keep or throw out things. Cheers!!

i never liked to through my old stuff . instead i like to store them. when ever i am free and bore i used to see that stuff again. that relax me a lot. as my hobby was to burn the things so the collection is not big.
