Why do majority of people use Internet explorer?

Well i always have a doubt why people are persisting with IE. Is it because IE comes free with windows? I read that 70% people use IE. Is it because people don't try other browsers? I have used more than one browser and i feel IE is far inferior. How many of you have used/tried more than one browser and still feel IE is better? If you have tried any browser other than IE just mention what you feel about that. If you feel it is inferior to IE state it. Let me learn.

I too am a Fire Fox fan. I just don't like I.E. and it's 'plain jane' look and feel. Fire Fox has a lot of little extras that are really nice, especially if one is vision impaired. I have heard that I.E. 'can' be uninstalled though. I've often wondered if I'd like an I-Mac better. C.C.

The reason why majority of used Internet Explorer is because it comes free with windows as what you have mentioned. IE allows to open any kind of websites including FTP sites which Firefox or even Opera doesn't. However, in terms of the safeness and speed, Firefox and Opera are far more better than IE. I do prefer Firefox and Opera. :-)

All along when i first used internet, i'm introduced to IE.. Thus i'm much more familiar with it.. haha =D And in the past, i dunno that there are other browsers around such as Firefox etc, thus i'm always sticking to it.. But after i know of Firefox, i still dun use it as i dun wanna mess up with whatever i have, and it's always better to use something i'm familiar with, when it comes to computer things.. haha

I think many people use Internet Explorer than Firefox and other browsers because we are used to it. I think it is the oldest browser ever and many people have Microsoft as their operating system so definitely, they will also use Microsoft's browser.

You can also add to that the fact that many people do not share the passion for trying something new, they use what they get.

I agree mostly because IE is included with Windows and for people who get their first computer are not aware that there are more than one kind of browser. They think that the only way to get onto the Internet is by IE. Another reason that people tend to use IE more is because it is very simple to use compared to other browsers. Many aren't hardcore users of the Internet and just want a simple, easy, and quick way to read the newspaper or check out their bid on eBay.

i don't believe there is something simple in IE which is not in others. i agree that people don't try out new things. just reluctance i would say. lets try to change atleast one person for the better thru this discussion.

Well internet explorer is not my preferred browser. I feel that most people still use IE is because it comes with Windows Operating System and because it is just easier to continue to use it than explore other options. I use Firefox. It is more stable and is my preferred browser. I agree that IE is far inferior in comparison. Why I like Firefox over IE is because it is more secure and overall user friendly.

Main reason is it come with window by default. most people using it from many years so they don't relay on other they feel easy with IE. I am using Firefox because of its speed and user friendly

Hi, I do not use IE. I think that IE is not very stable and it takes time to load. So, I am now using Firefox.

Firefox is also more stable than IE and Netscape, or Opera. It is also faster than them.

I think you are right in that Explorer comes FREE with Windows and many people are either too lazy to truy something else or they are scared that if they install an alternative browser it will somehow mess up their system.

I used Internet Explorer exactly 7 years before. The moment I downloaded Opera (7 years ago), I started to love Opera and left iexplore. It was Opera 4 then.:P Opera was the fastest browser that time and no other browser could beat Opera then. Then, I just gave a try to Netscape. I think it was Netscape 6 that time. It was a sturdy and a nice browser. I used Netscape until it reached version 7, and Gecko stopped its further release and started a new OpenSource Foundation, Mozilla. Just felt like trying its new browser, FireFox. It was version 1. The browser looked simple and it was the best in security. And now, I have firefox 3.0.4, and I still feel that FireFox is the best browser available and rocks in terms of Resources and Security. And one more thing, its OpenSource..
