Yesterday it was gorgeous, sunny and 53 degrees. As evening came around it started to cloud over and rain a little. At 9:00 it was still about 40 degrees, I was listening to the raindrops hit the metal cover on the air conditioner in the window behind me while I was sitting on the couch watching tv. About 9:30, within seconds, there were no more raindrops and all I could hear was the tick tick tick of sleet. I checked the temperature and it was down to 25 degrees! It dropped 15 degrees in 1/2 hr! By 10:00 there was an inch of ice and sleet on the ground and it was down to 19 degrees and windy. Hubby put on his shoes and coat and braved the ice to put a tarp over the windshield so it wouldn't be so hard to clean off in the morning. I told him he better get up early because I had a bad feeling the doors on the car would be frozen shut.
We got up at 5:00 am this morning and it was only 3 degrees! That's a 50 degree drop in temperature in 13 hours! Ice everywhere outside. Sure enough 3 of the 4 doors were frozen shut on the car. Hubby had to climb through only door that would open, the back door, to get the car started and turn on the heater. Since the tarp was held in place by the front doors he couldn't get the tarp off the windshield until the doors would open. After running the heater in the car full blast for 20 minutes the front doors finally opened. He said it was a good thing he put the tarp on there because there was a 1/2 inch solid layer of ice and sleet collected on it. It would have taken a lot of work to get that off the windshield!
I'm sure since this was a huge cold front we weren't the only ones who got that huge drop in temperature and icy weather overnight. My sinuses and arthritis are feeling it something awful this morning.
Anyone else have a story about the big change overnight? Does a big change in the weather affect your body like it does mine!?

Ice in the Philippines! That's surprises me, I don't think I've heard that before. Learn something new every day. It's not getting any better here. We had 5 inches of snow yesterday and expecting another ice storm tomorrow night. The roads should be fun to drive on after that. Thanks for stopping by Kat!

My mother keeps telling me it's hell getting older. I always used to think she just wanted to complain. Now it's me doing all the complaining since my arthritis is much worse than hers. I feel bad for all the times I used to roll my eyes behind her back.

Hi craftcatcher,
This evening I had to go and visit a friend and the grit lorries are out in force, it has been very here and it will be ice in the night, my body suffers badly in this cold weather, my knees ache and finger also. My hubby came to pick me up and he had a job to start the car but he done it ok. Now I am tucked on my couch with my laptop mylotting.

It's supposed to get below 0 F, -18 C with -29 C wind chills tonight and snow all day tomorrow. I've got my nice warm stadium blanket out and I'm going to be curled up here on the couch for the next 24-48 hrs at least! Then it's supposed to warm up a bit.
Be careful in that ice! Stay warm Tamara I hope you get a warm up soon.

Hey craftcatcher! I don't know where exactly in the US you
live but, that is something! I think that wierd weather is
headed our way! It was 61 degrees today and right now it is
still 57 degrees, but it is supposed to drop to 40 tonight.
It is raining right now and they are saying that we will get
some sleet and possibly some snow that might stick! I live
in NY, about 45 minutes from Manhattan! We haven't had any
snow yet! The weather has been bizarre! It had gotten very
cold, down to the 20's and lower and then all of a sudden
today it shot up to 60 degrees! I have no idea what is going
on, but it sure is strange!

I'm in northwest Illinois. The jet stream must have moved and you're getting what we've had for the last couple of weeks. We had 20s & 30s, a few light rains but no snow. Then boom 53 and sunny gorgeous day. Now we're getting smacked down hard. It's supposed to be down to 0 tonight and -20 wind chills. Several inches of snow is coming tomorrow Oh fun on top of all that ice!
I'm just gonna curl up on my couch and ride it out. Poor hubby has to go out in it though. It just wears him out when it gets super cold. It makes my sinuses, Fibro and arthritis go nuts. It's supposed to get back up into the 20s in a couple of days so I'm just gonna stay warm and cozy til then!

Wow thats something. I'm sure glad your hubby put that tarp on the car. I Fwl thew cold. I have some injuries and with advancing age I am feeling it when we get cold. Now mind you we do not get cold like you. To us it is cold but then we are in Southern Calif and compared to other places it isn't relly cold. But it is to us. Funny that you mentioned your sinuses, buy mine really get to going and I get the runny nose too. It's all just sinus but whart a pain. Our rainstorm was pertty hard and it got cold for us, but the drop wasn't anything like what you had to deal with.

A lot depends on the weather you're used to. I remember when I moved to warmer state in my early 20's, when it would get down to 40 degrees I would be very comfortable in my fall sweater and tennis shoes. Everyone else is walking around in their hooded parkas and boots! I thought it was very strange until the next winter I started doing the same thing. Now that back living in a colder climate 40 degrees is a nice fall day again. The body does adjust to where you live.
Thanks for stopping by morningstar, I hope both of us have some nice weather coming up!

I don't blame you pola! I'm not going out there unless it's an emergency. I don't even want to know what the wind chill is but it's got to be brutally cold.

It's days like today that I'd be happy if it was just 35 degrees! At least I wouldn't be afraid my pipes are going to freeze. Sorry to hear you're stuffy and arthritis is bothering you too. Makes for a very uncomfortable day.

Hi Pose. Lack of sun during the winter is depressing enough but when bad weather blocks out even more it does get depressing. I hope your weather clears up soon and I hope we can get a piece of your warm spell soon!
