Well we had a nice early blizzard in my area of Minnesota Sunday night early Monday morning. Not as bad as it hit a 100 miloes further North but still an artic blast and severe snow blowing and drifting all over. The winds and temps were so bad my front and back screen dorrs litterally froze shut from ice build up. Almost every window in my house had ice both inside and outside. Unreal and really cold. To look outside I breathed on the window of my front screen door, melting an opening to see the snow etc. It was beautiful, but the temps and winds are nasty still this morning. I have warmed up a bit to _4 FG now with a windchill of _28F now. The winds are still blowing. Let me tell you it's no fun being outside to clear the snow when it's this bitterly cold and windy. Frostbite can set in within a minute or less if the skin is not protected/covered.

And here I was complaining about the cold today and its 18 degrees here...lol. Its too cold for me, I don't want to be outside, I've had a hard time getting my house warmed up today, my toes are cold right now, and I'm wearing my jacket..ha. We didn't get any snow but we did get ice and rain, so right now everything is frozen and the roads are all slick, dangerous to be out in it. Get this, yesterday it got up to 74 degrees here all morning till the afternoon, you didn't even have to wear a jacket, then by 4:00 in the evening it was in the 40's. Then last night, we got all the ice and rain, and its 18 degrees today, now isn't that something to go from 74 degrees to 18, in just 24 hours? Thats Oklahoma weather for you, thats the reason everybody's sick here all the time, its warm one day and the next day its bitterly cold.

I heard on the news today that ice storms had hit parts of America but they did not go into too many details. It does sound really cold though, its been cold in UK too just lately and the other morning I went to take the kids to school and my back gate was frozen shut I had to pour hot water on the lock to get it open!!

Yeah the NorthEast area like New Hampshire etc had severe ice breaking large trees in half from the weight of the ice etc. Over 1 million people without power as well. A majority won't have power till Friday. Pres Bush declared a national emergency in that area and the National Gaurd is patrolling the areas and helping people get needed supplies etc.

She is gone already. I stayed at the bustop with her us both in the warm car till her bus came so she was good. Here's a shot of the door handle for my back screendoor. It's a new door and very well insulated. But with 40 MPH winds and temps well below zero theres not much help for it. The door is frozen shut and I'll have to use a blow dryer to open it if I want to use it. Brrrr! Like I say I live in "MINNESOBRRR", or, I live in "MINNESNOWTA".

Herein UK we have had an early winter with snow in November and December. With global warming we haven't had that in years!
Still, it must still seem like a mild spring time day compared to the conditions you are describing.
It reminds me of the scenes from Doctor Zhivago...
Keep warm, Grandpa Bob!

Oh great and I have to get an eye examination tomorrow. It is all my husband's fault. We were in the Mall paying our bills and he said I should get an exam since I have diabetes and you know diabetes have problems with their eyes. Well except for needing reading glasses for very fine print, I have no problem with my eyes, but he assumed I could get in and out and I figured since he knew the optometrist, I should be able to get in that day. Well I had to come back tomorrow when the optometrist would be in, but now my husband says, that he may not be able to drive me. He has arthritis, but why in the heck did he not say, "wait until the weather is warmer and make your appointment then?"
So I understand how you feel, with being unable to open the door and having the car door frozen so you cannot drive the car and I hated the idea of having to shovel the snow with all that wind blowing around.
So for those who think we are in global warming, how cold should it be to make you happy? Should maybe 40 below or 80 below or 120 below suit you?

I don't fair well in the cold Grandpa Bob but I wish that even once in my life I would experience touching, breathing and feeling in the snow. Since I leave in a tropical county, the snow and winter is something we have NEVER experience. I think it would be beautiful indeed to look outside your window. But as they say, beauty has its dangers. May you and your family may have a Merry White Christmas!

We had an ice storm a couple years ago and my car doors were frozen shut on my car it took hours and alot of hot water to unthraw it. It was so cold and we had no electity for two weeks as the ice took out all the power lines snapped them like toothpicks.

Wow, that is extremely cold. I would never leave the fireplace, unless I had to go get more logs or hot chocolate. I love your photo. It's so neat, very artistic.

I know exactly what you're going through. Right now tonight it's minus 30 but it's saying with windchill it feels like minus 41. It is bitterly cold and it's going to stay that way all week apparently. Even taking out the garbage this morning was pretty harsh.
Have a great night and stay warm

WOW!!!!! I think I'm glad I live in the South!! (Jersey, that is!) It didn't even get that cold in the Rockies the 17 years I lived there. WOW!! I have a cousin, though, who lives in Wahpeton, ND, and they REALLY get hit when that arctic flow comes down. They're right on the Minnesota border not too far south from Fargo. That boy had better keep everything padded and tucked if he wants to have more kids, that's all I can say. It's cheap to live there, but I don't know if I could stand the cold.

Wow that sounds really cold! I am from Minnesota originally, was born and raised there. I remember how cold it can get there. Oh and that wind! I don't miss it, it's not that much better here in Iowa, but it is a little better. Where from in Minnesota are you?

Brrrr, I got a chill just from reading this. The weather here in the Northeast has been crazy. Ice storm one day, warmer weather the next, snow, and today it was almost 50! Tomorrow will be more chilly weather. UGH!! I wish it would just get cold, snow and get it over with.

Hi GRANPA BOB,
Thats a preety sight looking out your homemade peekhole, but please be careful when going out, I don't want you to slide and fall over, I don't envy you clearing all that snow from your path.

Hey Grandpa Bob! I can't even imagine how horrible that kind
of cold could be! I wouldn't be able to stand it! How do you
even go outside in that kind of temperature! You would have
to be bundled up so that you couldn't even see! Never mind
clearing the snow! Wait till Spring and let it melt! That
kind of temperature is beyond dangerous! What do you do when
you have to go out? I can't even take it here when the temps
are just below zero! How do you keep your skin covered so
you don't get frostbite?

BBRRR!! that's terrible seeing your door handle down below and your other photo
GGEEZZ!! our wind chill was - 8 degree's this morning, but that was bad enough
trying to get into my car this morning, I had my windshield covered but you with
the freezing rain, you still get that crap down inside there, and then getting it
off out from under the windshield wipers can be tricky too..UGH I HATE WINTER!
sure glad I'm not out in where its been -50 below wind chills in North Dakota
BBBRRR for sure there, ! I just can't even imagine temps that blasted cold!
Poor animals...Poor humans!
