Like the whale - choose boy-/girlfriend depending on how their teeth look like??

I just read an article about how whales are mating :-)
The scientists found that the male whale have two special teeth at the outside of their mouth.
The females use the shape of the teeth to select males to mate with them. They may also choose mates based on the size of the individual's teeth or the scars they bear.
Now i wonder if someone also looks for the teeth (and how nice the smile will look then or how healthy this person looks with them) when you choose your boy-/girlfriend or is this absolute no criteria for you?

Hello my friend cornyman Ji,
Well, sincerely, I would keep y comments reserved, as I do not have any fancy to choose, nor I was allowed to do so by my parents, whatever they thoght best for me to mate, they provided. In case, for argument sake and to continue our healthy discussion, I should know some more inputs and close relationship between teething facts among asorted patterns of our human-beings.Sincerellyspeakig, whales must have found out something related with thier mating process. Let me comeback after, I go througgh that news in detail. may God bless You and have a great time.

Hello mygodblessu44,
i know that there are some countries and some habits from parental side which is that you are not allowed to choose yourself someone to marry. I think this is a pity for those persons.
I believe choosing the person on your own is a good way to find a suitable partner for your life. Building a relationship with someone whom you get provided by other persons can't be that serious, you have to pretend many things in this life to the outside world.
Have a great time in myLot!

Hello maygodblessu44,
Your response and comment made me thinking again and then i found a good idea to make a discussion about this subject.
I think it's already a good discussion with many reasons why choosing someone on your own or someone by your parents can be a good choice.
From my point of view it's just unusual, i want my freedom to choose. For others it's like it has always been like this, why changing the standard!
Enjoy your time in myLot!

Hello my friend cornyman Ji,
Well, I have my own way to my viewing, we are happy married copuple since Dec'1969. I think this much married life is more than sufficient to conclude, wheras , there are many cases globely, divorce takes place without spending 24 hrs with wife. So long friend and known he/she were Ok, but after they tied a wedding knot, they thought of seperation. How do you think abpout this. i think right after birth, parents do everything good for their children, similarly, they would find out correct partner as well. What is harm in that. i do not find any harm, at the same time, i do not compel any one to follow my ways. i have my own feelings this way. may god bless you and have a great time.

Your discussion is very interesting. Assortative mating in human beings is a fascinating field of research from a psychological point of view. I have read a few articles about this topic and a friend of mine is about to publish an article in a Spanish journal.
It seem clear that animals matches according to the traits that will help the survival of pups. But is something similar happening among human beings? There are some research pointing towards an affirmative answer (specially when the histocompatibility complex is studied).
But for me, assortative mating leads to other question equally interesting: Are there patterns of assortative mating that help to achieve marital satisfaction?
Again, research leads to an affirmative answer. Members of long-term couples tend to resemble in a number of variables. This resemblance is specially remarkable in intelligence (IQ), so the proverb "birds of a feather flock together could be reflecting something very real.
In response to your question I don´t look at the smile precisely but at others parts of the body less poetic.

Hello mano5chi,
at the moment i don't know what to write to such a scientific answer. Seems like you are in some studies about this topic or you help your friend for publishing this.
Hope other member could understand what you have been talking about :-)
Have a great time in myLot and enjoy the new year!

Hello mano5chi,
is it really only intelligence that we sort out our mates?
Do you think it's only how clever we act or do you believe it's also about the emotional intelligence?
I think it's a big part of the body presentation in these days since we get so many pictures, movies and magazines with all these beauties that many forget to look into the EQ (emotional quotient) the "opposite" of the IQ :-)
Have a good time!
Is this you on the pic, never thought a psychologist looks like that ;-) (joking)

You are right when you say I´m helping my friend to publish to article. I´m psychologist and assortative mating is an interesting field of research. It´s not very complicated. All I wanted to say is as well as the whales find a partner on the basis of its teeth, human beings seem to find a partner on the basis of intelligence.
Happy New Year!

i didn't knew this fact about whales,i must say quite an interesting one
now coming over to me choosing a boyfriend it wont depend upon his teeth for sure as i would only see his heart and if he can love me more than anything and understand me that's much important for me

Hello ammie07,
sure in the end it's all about the feeling of being loved and cared from the boy- or girlfriend.
For some persons the first impression is also important and then they don't know if this person which they don't like because of their teeth would be such a lovely friend :-(
Have a great time in myLot and keep on posting!

One of my husbands best features is his teeth. The are so straight and white people always ask him if they are false ones. I did not choose him on teeth alone. He was tall and dark and I love men like this. He had a great personalty also with a great sense of humour.
I guess having good teeth does make a difference and for some people they may make a point of this when choosing a partner like the whale does. Well my friend only goes for men that are bald so I guess everyone has there own criteria.

Hello hildas,
yes, that's true everyone has his own way of choosing a suitable partner in his life. For some it's intelligence, beauty, strength, for other it's money, houses or a car ;-)
I think you can be proud of your husband's good and healthy teeth, even white teeth are sometimes a sign of calcium deficit (usually calcium + Vitamin D give the teeth a healthy yellowish color!)

Now this one is very interesting subject for me. I wonder if the whales keep in looking at their teeth in the mirror. Where in the ocean can they find mirrors? Oh, well, the teeth does show how we take good care of ourselves.
My husband does have good set of teeth like I couldn't believe it. No decay for more than a decade! Funny thing is the first time I saw him I did not checked his teeth I only found about it later that he has an awesome set of teeth.
What I do hate is odor in whichever part of the body. I have very sensitive sense smell because of my rhinitis. I chose my partner because of his overall personality.

Hello hibiscus_mel,
if the whales could see themselves in a mirror, i think they would take more care of their body and don't fight like hell wit other men ;-)
But i think we should let them play this game, the women like it so much, when the men are fighting for the best place down in the sea :-)
That is really good, that your hubby has such healthy teeth. I had this kind of teeth in the past too but since some years the gums make some problems, not severe and my teeth look great. But every time little bit afraid of the next appointment with the dentist :-)
Have a great time in myLot and with your husband!

Hello Lakota12,
the eyes and the smile as a criteria for the mate. That sounds good, too.
Smile is always related with the teeth :-)
And the eyes, what's important - if he wears glasses or not, how many eyebrow hairs there are, the color?
Seems for me like you know something about Body Feng Shui and the symbols of the different body parts.
Have a good time and many friends!

I guess this is where I get it from. I love a man with a full set of nice white teeth. They can be a little crooked, I'm not that anal about it. But if they have missing teeth in the front, or the teeth are discolored, I can't see myself with them. I guess that is because I love kissing. So if the teeth are off in those manners, I can't picture myself kissing them.

And i like the sweet smile of my wife with her nice white teeth :-)
Have a great time in myLot and Happy New Year!

Female Elephants too select a strong one for her mating. I hope most of animals, birds and other creatures have choice in their own way of selection. But is there is any way of selection of mate in human-beings?

WOW, interesting thing to know. I hope all human beings don't look at their mates the same way. That would be very bad from me as my teeth don't look so great.

Hello brucekaushik,
i hope you can find someone even from the other responses it doesn't look that great to find a woman who like not that great teeth :-(
Perhaps you can find a good dentist who whitens your teeth and correct them so that they look wonderful again.
Why do your teeth look like this?
Have a nice time here and everywhere!

I know there has been studies about scent/pheromones. Males are attracted by scents the theory being they are attracted to females that would be good mates for children. However, with all the perfumes it's theorized that we are losing this ability as a society. Thanks for the info. Regards

I guess it matters somewhat. I have a mate now though and he's always complaining about his teeth. We can't afford to get them fixed.. but I hate it because he hates to smile because he's so self-conscious.

Hello ganderlot,
yes you're right. The studies about this scent is quite interesting. Women shall have a special attractive scent on the days when they ovum would be fertile and on the days when they have period it's more the opposite scent.
But like you said with all he deodorants and perfume and anti-pregnancy-pills it's difficult to smell this special scent of the women.
Now back to my discussion. Do you look for the teeth when you choose your mate? :-)
Have a good time in myLot and Merry Christmas!

Oh, i don't. Appearance is only something temporary. But if you know that the person you're looking at is going to be your partner for life, then the personality is the one that only really matters.
After all, everyone ages, and well... everyone loses their teeth then they're old, haha!!

Hello krfanlim,
you're absolutely right. As everyone getting older and older, we will loose our teeth and at this time we will see how wonderful our smile will look like :-)
Hope you have good and healthy teeth so that your smile will last longer ;-)!

Hi Tamara,
for luck we don't have to mate with whales. They have such big teeth and many scars around their face. Not really what humans are looking for ;-)
But for whales it's the symbol of strength - very sexy for the women :-)
Stay happy and away from big teeth :-) Merry Christmas!

It's true that one of the first things I look at are teeth. I also like nice eyes that look kind. But i think different people look at different things. Some of the most attractive people I know do not present a great physical appearance, but the person inside just shines through.

Good afternoon savypat,
usually i look for a sweet smile. This person opens my heart more easily than other persons expressions :-)
In this case the teeth should be in good shape, otherwise it wouldn't attract me that much.
Sure, everyone has a different view of attraction for someone else, that's what makes it a good topic for discussions, too.
Have a great time!
