Barack Obama is NOW the President-Elect!
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/2008-12-15-electoral-college_N.htm
"n all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the 538 electors performed a constitutional process to legally elect Democrat Barack Obama the 44th president."
I know some of you were holding out hope they wouldn't do it, but now it's over so can we finally get on with the business of trying to forget the nightmare of the past eight years? No matter who you support or like, you must admit the last eight years have been pretty awful so let's start to heal and unite again and rebuild this great nation of ours.

For a few minutes, I wondered if the Republicans could pull a stunt like they did when Bush stole Gore's presidency. Then I realized the Obama win was just too public and he's been too involved in getting ready for January 20 for such a thing to happen. Those negative thoughts have a hard time staying alive, when there's so much hope attached t Obama and our future with him at the helm.
The electoral college really is an outmoded idea, and voters should be directly electing candidates for office. The whole idea behind these electors seems to have been that ordinary Americans are too dumb to handle something as important as elections. Well, in the earlier years of the nation, most were, indeed, illiterate. Now most of us are literate and aware of politics through TV, the internet, newspapers, magazines, etc. It's a bit outdated to use the electors to get the final vote done, don't you think?

Yawn!
That tired lie again?
If Bush "Stole" the presidency from that scam artist, lying sack of crap Gore, why wasn't he considered the rightful candidate by the democrats the next election.
Put the lie to bed before you look like an idiot.

I won't open my mind to lies and stupidity. Gore lost EVERY recount in that election, so the whining baby cried to the courts.. Then he whined because the courts told him that they wouldn't change the rules midstream just because he can't handle losing.
Gore has since become one of the biggest scam artists and lying sacks of bovine entrails in history. In his film he showed how the earth would continuously warm up (remember the graph he showed? The end of it went up so steep he needed a scissor lift to rise with it). But as we can see from REALITY, temperatures have gone DOWN! Something his lies didn't predict.
If Prs. Elect Obama turns to him for advice on the environment, it will be yet another lying bit of scum in his checkered associations. No thinking person gives Gore anything but scorn.
Let's hope Prs. Obama does better than those he chooses to surround himself with.

Open your mind! These allegations have been proven true a number of times, and particularly in Florida, where it was a very tight race, and many ballots were "lost". Gore was not the candidate the next time because his focus had changed, and he was not the same as when he ws running for office. As an ecologist, many of his ideas, speeches and behaviors have changed, as he sheds the not-exactly-always-honest trappings of politics. Time and commitments changed him.

Forget the last 8 years? So does that mean we aren't going to hear Democrats blaming everything that goes wrong for Obama on Bush? :~D
Yup, now it is official, he is Prs. Elect Obama. Let's hope and pray for the Transparent and Honest administration he has set out for. I wish nothing but the best for his administration, and for our nation.

I'm certainly hoping and praying for the same thing you are, Ted. I can't speak for any other Democrats but I know I don't intend to blame Bush for anything Obama does wrong, if that's what you mean, like Bush blamed the economic problems of his Administration on decisions made by his own father...lol! He said our current problems are due to decisions made over a decade before he took office so that would be Bush 41, right?

Actually, most of the first year or so of any administration has more to do with the previous administration than the current one. Why? Because it takes that long for a new administration's policies to get passed, implemented and start to really effect things.
I've always been entertained by how reactive we have become. Congress or the Fed does something and we expect the changes to happen almost before the policy changes. If things don't change immediately, we call it a failure, then when change does occur, we wonder how it happened.

As far as I'm concerned the "nightmares of the past 8 years" were all media hype including how things progressed in Iraq, so I suppose things may go better now.. or may appear to.. yet I can't forget 9/11 wasn't a response to those 8 years.. no matter how much some would like that to be true.. and global warming concerns are sure to influence the economy.. I say, should we give Prez Obama as much of a fair shake as George W got?

Hi Annie,
I agree, it's time to stop all of the bad mouthing and support our new President so we can get things straightened out again and get not only the citizens out of debt, but also get this country out of debt. You know, we could all work together on this!

Nice try, but you didn't seem so eager to stop the bad mouthing when you made those crude comments about McCain earlier today. Just admit that you're more than happy to badmouth McCain now that the election is over, but you want all the badmouthing of Obama to stop. Just admit your hypocrisy and we'll all feel better.

I'm not so quick to jump on the band wagon, and
dance in the streets - - my concern is where Israel
is concerned. There are already plans in the making
in the new administration, to "slice up Israel" and
Jerusalem in particular, which is wrong.
Israel just wants to live in peace and be left alone.
History shows that the Palestinians want more and more,
and still will not be satisfied.
History also shows that the Palestinians want ALL of Israel,
because of their hatred for the Jews.
And then there's little former President Carter over there
right now, meddling in these affairs, with which he has no
bussiness doing. Like Jesse Jackson - he needs to
stay at home and promote peace HERE !
There's no way that Mr. "O" will be able to carry out all of
his plans, and I think we'll see a lot of his bringing in the
opposite of what he said he'd do.
But he is my president, and I'll not dishonor him, and will
be praying for him.

I was wondering how that went...no rogues refusing to vote as pledged I see.
From the responses I've read so far I think unity is going to be a little trickier than anticipated...at least in these parts. I do know this...I'm unemployed (along with millions of others) because of an economy that sux so I certainly hope that we can rebuild this nation.

You're both right, unity isn't going to be easy and I think one of the reasons is that nobody wants to be the one who "blinks". I know I've been guilty of criticizing Bush and other Republicans and I must admit, especially as long as there's a myLot and there's a politics interest in myLot I'll probably do it again but I think the saddest and most unfortunate thing that's happened these past 16 years is that it's gone beyond politics and simply disagreeing on issues and policies and turned ugly and personal. I'm not sure exactly when or WHY that happened, I'm only sure that it did happen.

Hey annie! It's sure going to be hard to forget the last
8 years no matter how hard we try! It has been a nightmare!
Every time I see that man's face I can't wait until the
20th of January! I am counting down the days until then so
that I won't have to see his face or hear his voice another
minute! It has been 8 very torturous years as far as I am
concerned! I was never happy from the day he took office for
the first time and certainly ever more miserable when he
was elected for the second term! I just couldn't believe
that people could be that stupid to make the same mistake
twice! So I am so happy that it will soon be over! But,
unfortunately the damage has been done and our new President-
elect has a very big mess to deal with and I am praying for
him! He sure has his work cut out for him! I just hope that
he can try to figure out a way to straighten out some of it
soon!

I'm excited to see how the next four years go. I hope and pray it goes well of course, i hope that he lives up to all he has promised. I sat up and watched the election with my son who is four so he could watch history in the making. I thought it was a very proud moment for the United States when they announced the winner. There were cheers around the WORLD.. it was an awesome thing to behold. :)

I am not going to forget the last eight years. It was not a nightmare to me, only to the Democrats. I do not like the idea that a president was elected mainly because he was black, and because he was treated as a demigod by the media. Oh and since the Democrats controlled the Congress, I am going to blame much of the nightmare on them, not on President Bush.
I am gong to blame the Democrats on believing Al Gore's Global Warming theory, on persuading the Fannie Mae and the other lenders to give mortgages and loans to people who could not afford them. I am going to blame that America had to import oil from enemy nations, that land was taking out of farmland for ethanol. As for the war, Saddam is now out. Did you wish he was back in? And is Obama wants to continue the Iraqi war, are you going to blame him? I doubt it.
By the way, I am against demigods.

Annie, might I remind you that there were about as many US troop deaths during the Clinton administration as the Bush administration? Might I also remind you that for most of the Bush administration the economic indicators were (on the average) on par with the Clinton administration?
The only reason it was a nightmare is you wanted it to be one.

I sure didn't "want" to live a nightmare the past few years and neither did any of my friends and relatives. I guess the rewriting of history has begun in earnest.

Maybe it wasn't a nightmare for you since you're not in the U.S. How many men and women have you lost in the Iraq War? It certainly wasn't a nightmare only to the Democrats down here in the states. I'm so sorry you have such prejudice in your heart and can't accept that your neighbors voted for a black man but I can assure you nobody I know voted for him "because he was black" but I'm very sad to say I know some who voted against him for that reason.
FYI, the Democrats controlled Congress by the slimmest of margins since 2007; Bush took office in 2001. The Republican controlled Congress for Bush's first six years were ignored by the Administration and they allowed him to walk all over them for fear of being accused of being unpatriotic so they rubber-stamped everything he wanted (as did some of the Democrats as well) and went running with their tails between their legs.
Yes, Saddam is now out and NO I didn't say I wish he was back in but I do wish we'd have gotten Bin Laden when we had the chance and that the intelligence hadn't been manipulated to get us into a war with Iraq which was already planned long before 9/11 and which took our focus off Afghanistan enough for the Taliban to regroup.

I guess you must mean the last 2 years since our economy was solid prior to the democrats gaining the majority in the house and senate. Should we also forget the improvements made in airport security?
It is time to move on Annie, but you've made it clear time and time again that you don't want to move on. You'll keep rehashing your hatred towards Bush, Cheney, McCain, and Palin as often as possible. It's pretty much the only thing you've posted about since the election ended I don't see any sign that you're going to stop.

Taskr, our economy was not solid until two years ago! Exactly what are you blaming the Democrats for, with their slim majority that couldn't come close to overriding a Bush veto? What Bush did sign he altered with his signing statements! What "improvements" in our airport security? The fact that now old men and little girls have to take their shoes off or be searched yet time and time again people have managed to get through security with things that aren't supposed to be allowed? As far as my "rehashing my hatred", are you going to say you and several others haven't been doing the same thing towards anyone on the left? Anyway, when I post something in the politics interest it's because it's relevant at the time I post it. Bush and Cheney are still in office so they're still making news; Palin has still been in the news. I don't recall having much to say that's been negative about McCain since the election so I don't think I've rehashed any hatred towards him.

The only reason the past eight years have been miserable is because of the work of the news media and Democrat party who made it their mission to ruin Bush's term in office. I believe the media did this out of a need to have power over the American people and the Democrats did it out of revenge for Clinton's impeachment and anger over Gore's defeat.

SO I take it he presented Scotus with an official sealed copy of his birth certificate....
Personally the only hope I have is the man lives up to his word of earning the respect of the ones who do not favor him. I am still waiting...and right now I do not think it is favorable either that Illinois politicians are not seen so respectable right now.
But then again....who knows. It's not about affiliations is it? Even over the last eight years...
So I am a skeptical optimist. Just like during the past eight years.
