because I just made one myself tonight. Sister and Boyfriend also enjoyed them. I know this because they said so and both of them had at least three bowlful(s). It wasn't hard at all. The making of the stuffed wontons was what took the longest but I am pretty happy with my first-ever wonton soup. Can you remember the first-ever meal or food you made that you were proud of? PS- As with most wonton soups I've had in my life, I burned my tongue again.

I don't think I even thought about trying to make a cake when I was twelve. Doing fine, shiloh, working. Today's my third consecutive and last long day. I'm so looking forward to staying in bed tomorrow and not have to get up at a certain time although I still have to work in the PM.

hi there. i have been cooking and baking since i was 12. i was trained to do household chores. so unlike with my little brothers. i was even tasked to cook a meal every satudays when i was in high school. plus it was my responsiblity to wash the dishes and so many things around the house. when i was younger, i helped with the cleaning and dusting. when i was in high school, my mom made me work... i had to help with her business of christmas decors and stuff... that's why i cant just sit and back relax eventhough i know i can... i just been brought to work and not be idle...fyi.. i already knew how to the chinese way of wrapping a wanton when i was in elementary. my chinese grandmom taught my mom...who taught me... so i can help...

Hi SaintAnne, it's nice to hear that you've made your own wonton. As I am Chinese, so I always eat wonton outside and also make my own wonton, as it's not too difficult to make the stuffed wontons. We always eat the wonton soups with the dried wonton noodles too, the wonton noodles can be easily bought in the supermarket in Asian countries, and it's quite easy to make the noodles too. Well, I do not remember the first-ever meal I've made. I just remember my first try to make a curry dish, and it was really nice. But when I tried to make the second time, it was not as tasty as the first time.

Hello Kaka... my first curry did not turn out quite as well either. But there are these kinds of first time that we learn from. Thanks for your response.

Wow! Congratulations Sisi! I have always loved wanton soup, even though a very few restaurants here make authentic ones. My first ever kitchen endeavor dates back to my teen days when I prepared a plum cake. It was not the first attempt though. It took me many trials to reach to perfection. And everybody liked it very much. I still remember that day! I was beaming with joy!

So is the signature Mimpi cake a plum cake? I don't think I've ever tried one... I can't remember having a plum and now Boyfriend is trying to tell me that NO, plums don't taste anything like pears. I am sure my wonton soup wouldn't turn heads... for now. Like you, I will also strive for perfection on this one. Thanks Mou and keep on baking and cooking.

I never thought I was a good cook until just a few years ago. The reason I thought I was not was not because the dishes did not come out tasting good, it was because I had to follow a recipe in order to do it... I could not just go into the kitchen and toss something together out of ingredients I had on hand the way my sister could! But then one day I realized I was 'doctoring' the recipes and adding more of this, less of that, or something else entirely than was called for in the recipe and I realized I had grown into a proper cook! And now, some of the best meals I've had have been just concocted with what I had in the kitchen! That is great you made your own wonton soup! And yeah, I agree, stuffing those little wrappers is very time consuming!

Same here with me, Ziggy. I always used to call on Sister to taste what I made and tell me what is missing. I still do from time to time but lately, I've been spending the time alone in the kitchen. Doesn't it feel great to make something without following a recipe? I think it gives you an even more sense of accomplishment. I think I can do that too but I also know I'm not quite there just yet. I still have a lot more to learn. The wontons turned out great. None of them popped open while in the pot so I was very happy about that. Thanks, Ziggy!

Hey anne! That's really cool that you made your own wonton soup! You're making me hungry now! That sound's like a nice big job to do! Sounds yummy too! And that would make number 4 in the accidents! I always burn my tongue on soup, but I have found that in the restaurant me and my girlfriend always put the ice from the ice water in it before we dare touch the soup! And by the way, I order hot and sour soup! Let me know if you figure out how to make that one!

I think drannhh suggested that to me a while ago. I said I would remember it next time and next time came and obviously my excitement made me forget again about the ice. I even warned Sister and Boyfriend about how hot is it. Apparently, I don't listen to my own advice. I will try to make hot and sour soup if not this year, then within the first few weeks of the next year. I think it's about the perfect time to be practicing on soup making, with the weather being cold and all. Thanks, Opal.

So this time, I didn't follow a recipe. I boiled 5 cans of low sodium chicken broth with some mushrooms. I added the stuffed wontons (I browned the ground beef with garlic, ginger and soy sauce for the filling) one at a time when the broth was really roiling. After a minute or two, I added the bok choy (cabbage) and then the scallions. After a minute or two again, that's it. It's done! I hope you enjoy it too, bliveinurself. Keep cooking!

Good for you. Me? I can't even get my instant noodles to taste right! I once tried cooking eggs sunny-side up but they ended up looking scrambled, raped, abused, and burnt to a crisp! I may have cooked something before which I maybe proud of....wait ...no. I didn't really cook it myself. I just watched over it while it simmered for 15 minutes! Enjoy your soup and have a good one.
