Dilemma, cell phone or camera?

I have to buy a gift for a teener, would it be a camera or a cell phone? He does not have any of the two and it would be her first time to have one. If you were a teener, what would you like best? a cell phone or a digital camera? What would be good alternative gifts if these two are not preferred? Should it be also another updated gadget or recent gadget? Thanks for sharing your views. Merry Christmas!!

I'll strongly recommend you to go with Camera. NEVER NEVER give a cell phone to a teenager unless you want to develop rivalry with his/her parents.

if you ask me, I have been doing some research on handphones. there are handphones with 8 mega pixel camera, of course it might not all the functions of the camera like face detection and would not actually be better that the quality of a 5 mega pixel camera. But it is handily and honestly do you need to have such a good camera. unless you are a pro.

Well not a problem, as long as I have been of help. I hope the person recieving it would be delighted, after all you spend so much thought into the gift.

Will the cell phone be a prepaid or will the child or parents be responsible for paying a monthly bill? If it is prepaid the teen may not have the money to buy minutes and if it is on a plan the parents may not have the funds to keep it going. The camera may be a better choice if either of these is the situation.

Teens these days would prefer a cell phone because it could also function as a digital camera. Well, I guess it all depends on one's budget for a gift because prices of techy gadgets these days are quite high and the kept on upgrading..so maybe we need to purchase the more practical ones for the teens.

Hi friend,It should be a cell phone for a teener as they love to own a cell phone. They can contact friends and it is the age and only teeners talk a lot. They like to be and talk with friends always. But I feel this is not the age to have a cell phone because they would be carried away and not concenterate in things what they should.I would prefer an ipod,as they love to listen to songs. My daughter,a teener loves to listen to songs and only songs. thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

I think I will choose a digital camera as a gift. As here the schools won't allow the students to use the cellphones. I don't know whether it's the same in your side. Besides, having a cellphone will increase the charge. As at least you have to pay for the phone bills. But if you have a digital camera, you don't have to spend money buying extra thing for it. And photography is a good hobby and you will learn more from it. I love China

If I am to received those two choices, I'll choose the cellphone with camera.. You can actually have both in one cellphone since there are so many new latest cellphone that is combined already with 2 gadget.. If you don't have a big budget to buy her/him a gift for latest cellphone then you can buy cheaper cellphone that also have the same features.. Those phone that is not very latest released.. Of course, all new released cellphone were sell very expensive so you can buy her/him in a low price that has a good features.. You can buy cellphone lower than 5000 pesos (100-150 dollars) just keep searching from the internet some good quality and features of phone..

I would be a little upset if someone got my daughter a cell phone. First of all, I don't believe that teens, unless they are of driving age, need a cell phone. I can understand it if they have a car and drive, but I can not see one reason why a 13 year old would need a cell phone. Secondly, the parents would be the ones getting stuck paying the bill every month and I'd be extremely upset with someone who gave my daughter a gift that I had to pay for every month. I'd much rather someone give her a gift I would not have to pay for each month.

I strongly recommend you should buy a camera as a present. You know, you should use a camera to take some photoes. Maybe many years have been passed, these photoes are beautiful memories.

Hey jenaisle, I am a teenager and i would like a cell phone. there are many cell phones coming with the latest technologies of cameras, video cameras, etc. so it would prove to be adual purpose. On the other hand if the person to whom you want to gift is an avid photographer or simply loves photography or is considering a career in photography then you should definetly buy him/her a nice good camera. Cheers!!! Merry Christmas!!!

Well, I think every teenager will love a cellphone. They desperately need/want cellphone to communicate with his friends or just to look cool. The disadvantage is that he will regularly spend more money for cellphone usage. If you buy him a camera, maybe he will not so excited as if he get a cellphone, but he will spend less money to maintain and use the digital camera. Moreover, I think he will have a positive habit and is more creative. Who knows if he have a talent in photograph, he can even make money doing photography.
