How would you react if you saw people like THIS??? lol.

Each to their own and all that, so don't get me wrong here! But seriously..... If I were to see two people walk past like the ones in the photo I provided, I honestly don't think I could contain myself! I obviously wouldn't say anything to them or be rude like that, but I would probably be laughing so hard I'd cry!
Maybe the one on the right would excite the panda 'cos she sorta looks like one herself in a bizarre sense! Imagine being the parents of one of these two? We may just have ourselves a human representation of "panda spanking"! A pretty shocking example I know, but hey, they are certainly thinking outside the box in their own freaky way here!
So how would you react if you saw the same? Would you be able to keep your composure or would you lose it like I would?

I bet that's not one of the exotic sights one could expect to see in the streets of Cairo. To be honest, if they're fair dinkum I would suspect that they have a hidden but very sharp sense of humour. Like monkeys laughing at the zoo visitors. I must admit I enjoy the lead.

Sarcastic, very, very cynical; and a fondness for disturbing poetry I reckon! lol. I remember seeing groups of people dressed like this in Brisbane City many years ago, but these two are certainly champions of their cause compared to the people I saw! Thanks for triggering the home state flashback Lash!

Oh I love the lead. I have worn a lead a couple of times and they are fun. They are an aggressive looking pair of people. It seems to me that they are saying "you got a problem buster?"
Well have you James? Laugh? Why because she is so big and tall, because of her decorations, the lead? I think they look defensive like they are expecting trouble. Maybe someone was making fun of them.
If I saw them I would think nice lead. Interesting hair but not my idea of makeup. Each to the own desires.

So out of all the unique and expressive things that could be focused in on from these two in the picture, it's the lead that catches your eye too then sharra? lol. They do look defensive and I'm an exponent of the each to the own desire philosophy myself; but I sure as heck wouldn't wish to be holding that leash if she decided to get a bit frisky and wanted to escape! Thanks for yet another disturbing visual and I am happy in parallel that your own idea of make-up is different! "Interesting" was a very nice way to describe the hair too by the way.

Of course. The lead is unique. The two girls look like goths and while I am not into goths I do not see anything particularly strange about them.
Oh James really. As if she was going to escape. It is interesting hair. Not to my taste but I find things that are different very interesting.
Now as for the lead. Well the first time I tried one the dog got jealous and jumped up putting his paws and most of his 40k's of weight on it and nearly choked me. He said it was his lead and no one was allowed to use it even though he did not want it. I mean just look at the size of the big galoot.

Very funny, they looked about 16 so I thought they were too old to be going to a little girls birthday part and they were travelling on the trams in melbourne. You just see all kinds of alternative wear these days.
I would not wear it where no one could see me let alone in public but some people just want to look different.

Are we being invaded ? I have seen some whacky ones , but i must say that one like this would take the cake James. As rude as it may seem, i would not mind having a dig at them , walk up and give them a blank look and then burst out laughing . Only hope my insurance covers health hazards caused due to "freaky accidents or incidents".

I do think that a "mirth from afar" approach would be the best bet here alok! That is one big and scary lookin' woman! I have seen many unique dressers in my time, but have to admit that this is one extra-ordinary example for me to see also! I honestly have no issues with individuality extremes but at least try to look a little appealing when you do it! lol. Thanks for the response and go check your insurance policy fine print. I wouldn't be looking for "freaky accident" clauses either and would seek "accidents caused by freaks" references instead.

Good for you Wizzywig. You surely must have visited some interesting places though! As I said in the discussion wording, each to their own, but this was certainly one of the more bizarre examples I have ever seen. If I was their parent, yes, I would be concerned with their weight too, but I would probably be quite concerned with their desire to look this way as well and would try to find a happier medium. Thanks for your comments.

Hmmmm, where I live, this is not really an unusual thing to see. I don't think I would think one way or the other about it.*L* Honestly, I am kind of like Lash and Sharra, the first thing I noticed was the lead. Like I said, it's not that unusual a thing for me to see. I once saw a young man on a lead, on all fours, walking down the sidewalk in town. The young lady holding the lead was really quite a lovely young lady.
I guess it is all a matter what you are used to seeing, or how you perceive what you see.

I am sure that if I were in my home city I would probably see things like this, but it is just not a sight you will witness in places like Cairo and Mumbai! lol. I don't think I could even describe how people might react if they saw people like that here! Seeing a man being led by a lady on a leash down the street though is definitely not something I have ever witnessed anywhere before. So how DO you perceive something like that then? Thanks for the comments Bo and for also outlining for the first time that the town you live in is actually part of a sperate dimension or something!

Fair enough. It certainly doesn't hurt anybody else and I have no arguments with that. It is just a tad unusual is all! This is normally a sub-cultural thing and to witness something like that in a main street would probably be a first for many who saw it. I am happy to go wherever the conversations may go too by the way. I'm sure I will be able to keep up.

Ok, both your conversations this morning are going places I don't think you want to go, James.
People can be weird, sometimes. But, if you think about it, we are all weird to somebody, right? So what if someone wants to walk down the sidewalk on all fours while being on a lead? At least these people are not out shooting things up, hurting or killing people. All they are doing is causing a scene, where more conservative types are concerned. But, really what harm are they doing other people?

You must be the most uniquely dressed triop in the entire country! lol. If you do plan to come to Egypt dressed like the people in the picture, please let me know well in advance so I can rent a hall and charge admission for locals to see you!

I would have no issues dressing like they are if it were for a fancy dress party or something, but as everyday wear??? Very odd indeed. Thanks for the comments riya and you ALMOST spelled it right. It's Gothopotamus with an O after the H instead of an A.

Hello, James!
Seems you already found the new specie of Panda out there. Nah, I'm just bad at joking. I wouldn't laugh at them. I would do nothing. I would just be scared, because that big girl could beat me without any trouble. I'd try to keep a safe distance from her, enough for me to run before she can have grabbed me. But laughing? No... Just shaking. Shaking is ok.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

Hi munhozmib. If this is a new species of panda then I may just have to abort my belief in evolution and embrace Creationism I think! I think you would have your hands full if this girl decided to beat you for sure! You could easily outrun her though, so get your sneakers on! lol. Thanks for the response.

OMG!! Please tell us that you did not tell us everything. That you are a reporter covering some kind of LSD freak show or something. Yes that must be it because nobody would possibly leave their home looking like that. But your not, and I too have seen this kind of "New Era" fashion in San Francisco. I have not thus far lost control in laughter but I have to admit that I would not do so well keeping control if I walked by those two.

I have seen worse then those two boys dressed up..I think he is a boy atleast even with the pony tails he appears to have a beard. I wouldn't really do anything. I see alot of this when I go to town kids trying to be goth. I would guess that maybe that it was a Halloween Photo since it was close to Halloween maybe??? I would be thinking to myself though Why would they wanna look like that..I have several nieces who recently went through the goth stage now I have a 17 year old nephew doing the same. I ask them why..and they just because they want to...Kids...

Yes, I THINK he might be a boy too! lol. The other ones a girl apparently..... The interesting thing is that I don't think it was dressing up for Halloween at all! This is one situation where I'd love the chance to actually speak to them both and gain an understanding of what makes them tick. Goths were all around me when I was growing up in the 80's, but I never came across any quite like these 2! Freedom of expression and all that, but these guys are definitely a tad weirder than normal! Thanks for the response mtdewgurl.

Looking through a few of the replies: am I the only one that can't find anything funny in the picture? I know Goths that dress way more extreme, I can't even find it in my heart to call them goths as they only have black make up on and nothing else that resembles being gothic apart from a few very common accessoiries.
I like gothic outfits myself, more of the cyber part that combines it with lots of flashy colours aswell. But still, I wouldn't call this gothic.
Otherwise any person with eyeliner on and a depressed look would be considered a gothic and 98% of all the goths I ever met weren't depressed at all.
The 'goths' that are depressed, cutting in themselves are most of the time wannabees that don't even know where the subculture originally came from.
But hey, there I'm going prejudging myself! I shouldn't do that; you see, it's so easy to go there...

"Goth" was the closest description I could come up with cyberfluf, but I do have to admit that they are not in the same category overall as many of the Goth's I went to school with and have seen in my home city. I don't think you are alone in not finding it amusing either as several others have said the same. I personally do find it amusing though because it is such an unusual pairing of two people for one; and the way they have decided to present themselves is just funny to me. As I have always said though, each to their own! I still would love to actually talk to them both and find out what's what. Thanks for the response.

It wouldn't be much fun if we agreed ALL the time cyberfluf! Anyways, getting all defensive pretty much shuts down any discussion and I certainly don't wish for that to happen. It does seem though that I have been away from home for too long because many people have said that people like these two are not an uncommon sight at all! You just don't witness things like this in Egypt and there is no chance of me seeing this in India before either. I may just be in for a bit of a shock when I get back to Australia! lol.

When I first saw this discussion I almost passed it by, and maybe I should have. My second response was "where have you been hiding yourself, in the middle of the boon docks (also not do be judgmental)?" The I checked your profile and noticed that you are in Egypt and while I would not necessarily consider that as the 'middle of the boon docks' (unless you are out in a very rural part of the country with no connection to the city or media), I can see that you probably would not be seeing many people dressing like this anywhere in the country. Not that I have ever been to Egypt but my understanding of the country is that this kind of dressing on the streets or in any public venue would not be tolerated (let me know if I am wrong, this is how I learn). Here in my part of the USA (Denver metro Colorado) while this kind of behavior is not necessarily the norm, it is not uncommon, and you will see it from time to time, especially on days/nights when young people 'dress up' and go out (that would usually be Friday and Saturday nights). While many of us may see it as hilarious and bizarre, it is not a lot different than I behaved when I wss a young person. Other than their both being massively over weight which is not an uncommon health problem in the western world they are just expressing their own individuality and may actually go on do be productive members of society. It is one the rather genius of western society as I see it. I rather like our "to each their own," it has given rise to a lot of innovation. Now if we could just stop trying to impose it on others.
Sorry-- didn't mean to take this off to a serious discussion. Just really wanted you to know that these young people are really rather mildly outfitted. We are enjoying a Midwinter holiday season here. Hope you have a happy new year Georgian calendar. Cheers

I am in Egypt yes, but I am an Australian and also British, so I too have had my fair share of sights like these two! (Well maybe not quite as unique as the way they have managed to set the standard in that photo, but close! lol.) There is no way you would see something like that in Cairo though. I am sure it is not uncommon in many other places, but there is just something very amusing about these two in particular that I can't help laughing at.
I am all for individuality and creative expression myself, but people should at least try to be a tad stylish about it! I have seen many a Goth and grew up as a teenager in the 80's when the Gothic look was very popular. The styles were certainly bizarre but they at least had a semblance of style about them. My own fashion sense was odd at times too, I must admit. Thankfully though, I never went down the path of trying to look like someone's big goth pet on a leash! lol.
I have expressed my wish earlier in the discussion to be able to have the chance to actually meet the two people in the picture because I would love to know what they are like and what they are all about. It would be interesting to know. Thanks for the new perspective GhostCat, it may have been a serious one but interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, well, James, there was something about your writing that did not strike me as being very Egyptian. Despite the fact that I have never left the confines of the continental United States, I have known a number of Egyptians. And there is something about the pair in the picture that strikes me as being more British than American. But as for being, or rather not being very stylish, I rather empathize with that. No matter how hard I have tried throughout my life, and not matter how many very talented people have gone to work on me I have never managed to be very stylish. I finally gave up on it. I am a female, and I think not unattractive, but never have been beautiful, but I have had many people in the theatre and fashion industry try and make me stylish and I always look like some sort os a want a be, so I may have a be of a prejudice here, but I really am thankful that I live in a country where for the most part we supposed live by a get along go along motto. Not all of us are able to be stylish. It may be in our genes. Or perhaps we are just contrarians (my spelling dictionary doesn't contain this word, but I am sure it is proper). Whatever, my brother has basically disowned me. Cheers, Happy Holidays.

Well if we take "pro" choice, and then take the word PRO, add another O (As in O my God what ARE those 2 wearing!) we get the word POOR. So if we use this completely ridiculous word morphing path I've just made up, we go from pro-choice to poor-choice! If this was one of the powerful trends, then I shudder to think what the weaker ones must look like! And for the record, it's a guy and a girl.....
