As some of you might know my mum came to visit at the weekend. I showed her, her Christmas gift and the first thing she did was to shake it! She hasn't changed, my mum has always done it, every single year without fail my mum will shake and squeeze all her gifts! It was lucky it wasn't anything fragile - this time. I have never done it myself!!
So are you a squeezer or a shaker, or both?

We are all kids at heart, especially when it comes to Christmas, and some of us, your mum, as I chuckle included are big kids too and are just as excited as your children no doubt and most of us are guilty I think of shaking, rattling, squeezing our presents, except me! I have to admit with utmost honesty that I don't do anything to my parcels, in fact I don't even like touching them, I don't want to know! Even when mum lays the presents out she gets me to display her presents and I get her to display mine that way we don't get a chance to even touch or look at them! Works a treat!

I always ask "is it fragile?" before I shake or squeeze, I guess I'm not a constant shake or squeezer though. I think it's kind of nice though, it's good to always have that kid at heart!

I am a cuddler in a nasty, acquisitive way. "Mine all mine" I shout and laugh in a manner that unnerves even me! Usually I leave my presents alone. I am torture to be with if you are eager to get at your pressies. On Christmas Day we usually have our stockings in bed (I've tried tights but they don't suit me!). Then we get up and have breakfast (always smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and champagne) before our daughter drives us nuts by demanding that we all open one present each. So we do, she usually opens two or three. It's usually well into the afternoon, and after The Queen, before any more serious unwrapping is done. One of us (usually The Boss) writes a list of who gave us what so that we get the thank you letters right. Eventually, somewhere before 5, we are done. Then it's on with the dinner and indigestion!

LOL, I guess I do that too. LOL. Today I got a package of gifts from my son who is in Texas with the Army. When I saw mine the first thing I did was shake it lol. I did this because I collect bells and I wanted to see if it sounded like a bell but it didn't.

I don't like to see any gifts for me until Christmas Eve when they are put under the tree. I reallyhave to stop myself from opening any gift with my name on. So I don't touch them just in case I lose self control!
However, I have never squeezed or shaken a gift as far as I can remember. This year though, we are just giving token gifts to each other but spending more on the children as the economy is going pear shaped! Blessings

But its nice having family members around christmas time spending time together. Have a Merry Christmas Humbug

Hi there ronaldinu
Well unfortunatly my mother won't be spending the actual Christmas Day with me and my boys as I would have liked but she has to go and see her own mother but I will be seeing the new year in with her and she has plenty of time off work so that is great!
Merry Christmas to you too ronaldinu and thanks for your response

I'm a squeezer myself, never no what's in it. My children are gettting very excited now because lots of parcels have been arriving in the post from the parents in England and the children have been helping to put them under the tree (of course they are all wrapped) but I smile watching them, I can see a bit of squeezing and shaking going on.

Hi there amanda333
I think you have to smile as you can't tell them off because you are just as bad as they are. I have only two gifts to put under the tree at the moment but I haven't because they are for me and I don't want the kids to get disappointed. I haven't even put theirs from me under there yet purely because I haven't wrapped them yet!!
Thanks amanda

hi humbug, im neither a aqueezer nor a shaker for the very reason you mentioned, in case it's something fragile that's not supposed to be squeezed or shaken. sometimes though, i can hear noise as i'm carrying it like something is rolling or rattling in there. that adds to my curiosity and makes me wonder if it's broken already

My husband ALWAYS has to guess what's in his presents! He started doing this when our children were little - they thought it was a hilarious game! It certainly made Christmas morning last a lot longer, and he usually managed to guess correctly in the end. He always does lots of squeezing, shaking, sniffing and poking!

Nope. I enjoy a surprise! I have also tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to implement the rule : If you guess it, you can't have it! Well..... at least I TRY to keep them from doing it. Actually, that's a rule from my mom because my dad was the worst at that stuff. And do you know what?........ He usually guessed right! We hated it when we were kids! We always thought we could stump him by the way we wrapped the package, but he always got it right!

Hello humbug25! I also shaked my gift first before opening it. I want to be surprised and I want to guess what's inside the gift. I don't know but I feel excited to open and I want to take time first and treasure the excitement that I have.

I love doing this. Haha it makes me feel like a little kid again. I think everyone enjoys doing it sometimes. No matter what holiday it is.
